Live My Life
January 27th, 2010 by krochfordIf someone was to ask me if life was fair, I wouldn’t have to think about it my answer it would be no. I don’t think that life is anywhere near fair, if life was fair there wouldn’t be advents in the world that are happening today or that has happened in history. I don’t understand how people could think that life is fair, people say what goes around comes around so everything happens for a reason. But, that isn’t considered to be fair, think about the people in Haiti, they didn’t do anything to deserve what happened to them. One of the things I always question in life is why do bad things always seem to happen to good people, or people who don’t deserve it. For the people of Haiti I ask this question, if their really was a God why would he allow for this to happen. I find it hard to think that their is an almighty one watching over when there always seems to be bad things happening to undeserving people.
On January 12, 2010 the country of Haiti was hit by a huge earthquake. Haiti was already considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world, this event sent them even closer to the top of the list. The people of Haiti are no stranger to natural disasters, they are constantly being hit with not only earthquakes but cyclones too. They did not deserve for this to happen to them. I feel so bad for these people, I couldn’t imagine how much pain they feel. I don’t think that anyone I know can feel this pain unless they have been put through great suffering. These people lost loved ones, their country, and one of the greatest things, their pride. I believe that a persons pride, is the biggest factor in their life. Without pride a person is like a lost soul, this reminds me of one of the 4 postulates, “is our soul immortal.”
We read the book and watched the movie ‘Julius Ceasar‘ where there are two different groups of people, Stoics and Epicureans. A stoic would believe in an immortal soul they believe that we were put on this Earth, to live towards something better after death. If I was to ask a stoic, ‘is life fair’ they would answer yes, because to them what ever happens now happens for a reason so it wouldn’t be considered fair or unfair. But, if I asked an Epicurean this question they would answer no. An Epicurean believes that we should live in the moment and take nothing for granted. They are the ones that like to indulge in materialistic things and live for lust and not love like a Stoic.
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade everything that happens on this world happens for a reason. To make the best out of what I do in my life, I need to be able to take each day and live it like it’s my last. I can’t think to myself I’m scared, because I will never know what will happen. I’ll never find out till I try so I have to be willing to take a leap of faith, and I also have to realize there will alway be consequences for my actions. For someone to live their life to their fullest potential they need to be both a Stoic and an Epicurean. They need to be like a Stoic in the sense that they need to love, someone can’t go through life just living for lust. Love is one of the greatest powers on this Earth, love conquers all and will always be that way. We need to be like an Epicurean in the sense that we need to be able to take chances and make mistakes. Humans aren’t perfect everyone makes mistakes, but we’ll never know the mistakes till we make a decision.

One word, Superbowl, the first thing that comes to my mind isn’t football it’s what kind of commercials they are going to have this year. I know that living in Canada we don’t get half the commercials that the USA does but we still get a few. I love watching all the beer commercials and laughing at how funny they are. If I was to think about what they were actually saying I wouldn’t laugh like I usually do. I don’t think many people see the ‘big picture’ they are trying to portray in their advertisements. A lot of the beer advertisements show a discrimination towards women, they show them in revealing outfits, unporportionate sized parts of their body, and overall a bad name for women everywhere.
Most women don’t act like this in real life, and when guys go out to bars they expect the women to be in skimpy outfits and do what ever the men want. These commercials make it very hard for women today because many feel like they should look and act this way to be more appealing to the male gender. There is a overwhelming percentage of women today that wish they had that ‘killer’ body and amazing social skills. I think this is actually humorous because the majority of people who create and put these commercials onto TV are guys. I am a little sad that they portray women this way because there is the odd ones that actually look that way. It puts a lot of stress girls especially those that are in their teens they see that image of the girl at the bar and think thats how they’ll have to look and act.
I can’t sit here and say that they shouldn’t show these ads on TV because I enjoy laughing, but they should be less extreme in the ways they show both males and females. They should show normal people just having a good time. I would rather have a good time with friends or meeting new people then having to be someone I’m not. I know a lot of fakes and I wouldn’t want to live my life that way. If I be myself and act how I normally would I will find friends that will love me for me, and a true friend is better than one that’s not.
These statics are enough to make me sick, young girls shouldn’t be trying to lose weight there young bodies aren’t fully grown yet. Their bodies are going through changes and some add-on a few pounds, I agree with exercising to stay fit not to lose weight at that age, and diet pills are totally out of the question why would they do that to their body. Most don’t know the consequences of what that is doing to their bodies, I don’t think most adults know what they are putting into their bodies either.
Julius Caesar was an epicurean, meaning he believes that everything is made out of ‘stuff’ anything that can bring him satisfaction is good. An epicurean lives for the moment and in the moment. Marc Antony is considered to be a stoic, we don’t find out till later in the book and the movie that he is in fact a stoic. Shakespeare portrays Marc Antony to be an epicurean because he likes to indulge himself in ‘stuff’, he likes to go out and party and have a good time. It seems that he wants to live in the moment, but in the end of the movie he says that Brutus died an honorable death. A stoic believes that we live for what’s next; they live to please the Gods.
njoyed reading and watching the movie Julius Caesar. I got to learn about a different time period, and see what it was like to live in the times of ancient Rome. It was a really neat experience trying to figure out what they were meaning by the language they spoke. At first our class had a really hard time trying to comprehend what they were saying but when we figured out we started to actually understand what Shakespeare was trying to tell us through his play. I think that our class enjoyed watching the movie and discussing in class about Julius Caesar. Our class also needs to learn a lesson about who to trust and who not to. It’s a very important lesson in life, and most teenagers will go through a period in their life where they will listen to people who they shouldn’t like a random kid, then listen to someone who actually knows what they are talking about like their parents.

Drugs, are a very serious topic, and should not be taken lightly. Drugs mess up lives, and sometimes you don’t get a do-over. There have been family members of mine that have been on drugs or involved in them. And it torn our family apart, some don’t even talk to each other no more, and we were always a very tight family.

ady to try out the bunny slope I was freaked but also uncontrollably excited that I was going up the mountain to ski. When I rode up the tee-bar and the instructor told us to get off and turn so we’re facing the bottom of the mountain I felt sick to my stomach because they had a snow fence 10 feet from the chateau and I was questioning my stopping abilities. She told me it’d be alright and off we went down the mountain. It turned out that not only could I stop I had beat my friends also, so we raced each other down the mountain time and time again.
