Act 3 Response: Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet talk about their relationship using night and day references. Why do they seem to prefer darkness over light? 

The darkness can be one of two things depending on your philosophy of life- thrilling or terrifying. Many melodies, objects, and even people in the world represent darkness. The melody of the nightingale is what announces to young romantic minds that the nighttime has come, while the lark exclaims that the sun will rise again. The nightingale sings about pity, but pity only comes from love. The nightingale’s song represents an emblem of love, and melancholy is the bird’s dominant note. He sings for lost love, a feeling of pensive sadness. Romeo and Juliet listen to the sweet sound of the nightingale, for when the lark appears, it is time for Romeo to depart. They long for the risk that the darkness brings, and the desolation the nightingale sings towards. Evident in Act 3, Scene 5, lines 35-36– the darkness is where Romeo and Juliet’s love blossoms. Their love story is ever changing and unpredictable. They long for the moon, and for the nightingales sweet song to tell them that nighttime is about to arrive. The predictable rise of the sun frightens their love. The selection of Paris or Romeo is a choice Juliet must make. I think however, is there ever really a choice- is love a choice? The choice that would please her family and friends is Paris. If you came across two paths in a forest, Paris would be the path lightened most by the sun. However, Romeo is the only choice she considers. He is the risky choice. He killed her cousin, and is from the rival house. Romeo is the bad boy, the villain. Why does everyone want most what they cannot easily have? This relates to those in Romanticism who enjoyed spending time in the dark, because it is harder and more difficult to do things in the darkness. It is easier to trip and fall in the path with no light, however it is much more rewarding when you make it through- if you make it through.

Why do we fear death…? 

Fear is the unpleasant feeling which is caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. So, why is it that we fear death when the church exclaims that heaven is perfect- free of pain and threat? Why do we disregard the teachings of heaven being pure and holy and turn death- the event that leads you to heaven- into something that seems to be most feared? Perhaps we are not afraid of death, but rather of being alone. Perhaps we are afraid of the unknown. Established in Act 1, and touched on again in Act 3 is the idea that Juliet’s parents are less to give her solitude, while Romeos parents let him be alone. This shows that the Capulets are less to accept the idea that death is inevitable, that it is possible and uncontrollable. Perhaps, they try to control or place restrictions on Juliet’s life because they are unable to accept that death is our ineluctable fate. The Montages on the other hand, seem to be more accepting to the idea of death and the reality of loneliness. They allow Romeo to wonder forests in the middle of the night- through the unknowingness of darkness. To hold the fear of death would be as to say that you fear accomplishment. As a creation of God we were made to be easy and messy. Created with such passion and pureness it is indisputable that we spend our lives in preparation for death. We wake up every morning and look in the mirror, the image we see comforts us. After school we jump in the puddles, never alone, always with our friends. Walking down the hallway we are accompanied by our friends, and when we are ‘alone’, enlightened by the memories that trail through our minds. Even when we think we are alone, we are not. The thought behind death is that you will abandon the people you care about the most, you will leave not only their being behind, but too, the memories you share. When death comes you will have no one to comfort you, no one to hold your hand whisper “its going to be okay”. You can no longer miss someone or something and attempt to reconnect. You are separate, voiceless, paralyzed.

What happens when we are left alone?

What will you do when there is no on to stop or correct you? Encompassed in line 171-172 of Act 3 Scene 5, is the idea that being dismissed is worse than being yelled at. We as humans can grow acceptance to the words people say to us. Line 157 in Act 3 Scene 5 shows Capulet calling Juliet a “green-sickness carrion”and  “baggage”. However, we seem to struggle when we are abandoned. When we are forced to talk to and discover ourselves it seems as though we are frightened. Juliet is convinced by Nurse that it is best she be “married with the county”, here nurse has betrayed Juliet. Is this betrayal perhaps to get Juliet to be more independent- to get Juliet to think for herself? The things that often hurt the most are the things that come from the people we care about the most, in Juliet’s case, this is Nurse. It hurts Juliet that she has been betrayed by her closest friend. Juliet is forced to make up her mind- in her time alone. Will Juliet take nurses advice to marry Paris or be lead by her own thinkings towards the enlightened trail of the forest- Romeo?

How much harm do our own internal struggles cause? 

Inside each of us, there is a seed of both good and evil. It seems as though it is a constant struggle as to which will win. All life demands struggle, in fact this struggle and the way we choose to cope with it, makes us who we are. Our own internal struggles such as guilt or shame can cause us to disconnect from our real self, in search to find compensation. As humans we seem to always be in struggle, some being more recognizable than others- physical vs emotional. The hardships which we hold inside and attempt to deal with by ourselves, are often the ones that cause the most harm. Sometimes perhaps, the suffering inside is too, the hardest to recognize. If we can not recognize that we are hurting, how are we supposed to cope with it?  Our internal struggles cause a great deal of harm and effect our outlook on life, ourselves and others around us. Suffering can cause us to change in a negative way, but ideally should force us to change in a positive way. If we are able to recognize our internal faults we can ask God for assistance in the journey to recovery. I refer to Father Paul’s video entitled Thank You Jesus For All The Crumminess In My Life. In this video Father asks, “can you look at your failures and find joy?”. Of course, most of us answer this with a definite no, that it brings upon a feeling of depression. However, father goes on to say that we shouldn’t feel depressed because it is our failures and disasters that causes God to be attracted to us. Bernadette Subarea made a little testimate of all her failures and within this thanked God for each an everyone of them. Although this seems like a very stupid thing to do-to thank God for our failures- it allows us to grow acceptance and realize whom we have become because of these sufferings. Holy week teaches us the shortness of suffering and that, whatever tribulation or suffering we are experiencing, it is a brief suffering in light of eternity. Father Paul preaches, “Brief is your suffering greater still and more limitless, your glory.”

What does the very existence of abortion say about us?

The existence of abortion perhaps says that our society does not and will not accept the consequences of their actions. Abortion shows that one would sacrifice the life of another-whom is unable to make a choice or fight back- to feel in-control of their own. I find it acceptable to conclude that as humans we like to take advantage of every situation possible, we like to have the power and control. Medical technology has made an advancement in the “fix your mistakes” category, so why not make the most of it right? With the ability of woman to abort they are able to act foolishly and not face the consequences that their actions should have brought. Many times in the bible it is proved that abortion is wrong. In reference to pregnant woman, the term “with child” occurs 26 times in the bible. The term “with fetus” does not occur once. This demonstrates that a child is a child right from the moment they are conceived. The creation of abortion is yet another representation of the human fault of attempting to run away from the effects of their actions, rather than dealing with them.

Is there good because there is bad?

Many people will tell you that evil is a necessary part of the world. You can get many people to agree to a claim such as; “there cannot be good without bad.” This is a metaphysical idea about the structure of reality. Part of that idea is that everything in existence must co-exist with balance or symmetry. However the  existence of evil poses a problem for this picture of reality. Evil is typically associated with destruction and nothingness. If we allow the evil of the world on the same level as the good of the world, then we buy into the dual-nature idea that being and non-being coexist.  All of nature in essence is good, since the creator of all nature is supremely good. But nature is not supremely and immutably good as is the creator of it. Thus the good in created things can be diminished and segmented. For this good to be diminished is evil. Everything is made pure by God, it is inevitable that with experience and interaction we as humans become impure. It is the evil which takes an unadulterated item and in essence, stains it. Where there is no privation of the good, there is no evil. Where there is evil, there is a coinciding diminution of the good.

Can we imagine senses we’ve never had?

A sense is a feeling of perception of what something would be, should be or is like. I ask, would one be able to imagine what the colour blue looks like if he has never seen? Would one be able to imagine what music sounds like if he has never heard? Would one be able to imagine smell if he has never smelt? These questions pose great thought. I believe that one would not be able put into perception a sense that they have never had. If one has never seen, he has never witnessed what seeing looks like and in turn should not be able to imagine what it is like.  I think of this like a dream. Dreams come from or are created by things you have experienced or thoughts you may have about things you have experienced. We do not dream about random things, in fact a reoccurring dream can intimate that something is wrong or may become wrong (in relativity to the dream you have been having). I read in a psychology book, which was laying around the basement, that it can be useful to record dreams-  that is write down every detail of the dream you have had, because often there are ideas or events that reoccur in many dreams. This reoccurrence can be your mind letting your mind(this is also a weird thought) that something may be wrong or may happen. You do not dream about things you have not had an introduction to. With this idea, I conclude that you can not imagine senses you have never had.  If one was to have never seen, and another person was to begin to describe to them the colour blue, would they be successful at giving an accurate insight on the real colour of blue? – They would not be able to give an ACCURATE insight, however the blind person should be able to formulate some sort of thought on the colour blue. It may not be anything close to the real thing.

What is the real colour of blue?

Do we all see the same colour of blue when looking at the same blue object, or do each of our minds interpret it differently? – Each of our minds interpret the colour differently, perhaps maybe it is our eyes that do… not our minds. This idea is evident through the existence of ‘colour blindness’.

How would you begin to describe the colour blue?  – I would describe the colour blue as an icy colour. If you were to chew on a piece of winter fresh gum, or experience the cold of winter that is what blue is like to me in relation to sensation or taste.

Act 1: Consider the Whole Act


Love, a wall separating the good and the bad. A barrier which will protect, shelter, hide things and keep secrets. Within the first act of Romeo and Juliet we have been introduced to many things. Some to which intrigue me the most are the controversy of love as a choice or love as a force and the three persons which live within us. As well as the many things we have learned, there are still some things which are unclear, personally, I ponder how Juliet is perceived to be so perfect.

Perhaps you have to break down the wall to find love, perhaps the wall is love itself. Throughout Act 1 we have been introduced to many situations that have demonstrated the theory that love is not a choice. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light, John 1:8. This verse in particular stands out to me when thinking about love. The biblical story tells how through God all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made, and in him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. It describes how The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. In this story there was a man sent from God named John whom came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo, after being convinced by Mercutio that it was acceptable to attend Capulet’s party says, Give me a torch… I will bear the light. Romeo is saying that he is willing to hold the torch, to bear the light. I make relation to John and Romeo at this time. Perhaps Mercutio’s ability to convince Romeo that he should attend the party was an intimation that Romeo has been given a significant task from God. I think of love as this light, as through life comes love. John was sent to spread the light, much like Romeo may have been sent to spread the “love”. The bible verse states that “he himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light”. This demonstrates how Romeo himself was not love and how he had never loved before he had attended the party; before he had been sent on a mission by God. Romeo had been guided so that he came as a witness to love. At the party, the first person he had set his eyes on was Juliet saying, she doth teach the torches to burn bright.  This shows that Juliet is the light that shines in the darkness, the one whom the darkness has not overcome. Since Romeo has been sent to witness this light and has been called to testify, to proclaim its beauty it is inevitable that the two lovers will become star-crossed. Through all good things comes a sacrifice. Life will end and the light will dimmen. Love an inescapable beam; a divine spark between two ends in a sacrifice, but this sacrifice only to keep the light illuminated; to pass along, bear.

Within Act 1, Scene 4 we were introduced to the idea that we as humans are one substance but still contain other distinct selves. I relate to the shield of the trinity and how God is three selfs but is too, only one person. As humans we are beings, dreamers and the ones in our memories. Our real self, the one who is shown everyday, the one who acts and is acted upon by others. This is the self that is the most easily seen and is the strongest of all of the self’s. Our real self witnesses hopefulness, which is lead by disappointment. Our brains are infected by love, like a parasite. We are ill, yet still labour on. Our bodies as dreamers are in the most vulnerable state. Here we are risk takers, experiencing dreams of wish-fulfillment. Making reference to Mercutio’s dream, a Queen Mab dream is what we are in search for. If you dream by what you wish, that is what you will get. If a person is to dream of prosperity, that is what he will get. However if one is to dream of the stars, they will come to a cross roads. At the end of Scene 4 Romeo revealed that he had had a dream about being star-crossed, “my mind misgives- Some consequence, yet hanging in the stars”. Dreaming of a consequence that happens in the stars Romeo knew that something was going to happen the night of Capulet’s party that would end his life. Our dreams give Intimation to what will happen to our real-self. We learn to accept our fate. The third component to human is to be living as memory. As humans we like to feel sure, to feel secure. Due to this nature, we tend to think back to the past to find assurance. No one can be certain what is to come in the future, however we know that it will happen. The presence of these three selfs is simply an intimation of immortality. We are able to live in these three dimensions in preparation for eternal life.

A puzzling dimension of Romeo and Juliet is introduced in Act 1 Scene 5. Within this scene, Juliet is described as being the perfect human, everything that is trying to be perfect is trying to be Juliet. Beyond what we see and can not see, she is beautiful.  Romeo places such a high value on the beauty of Juliet that it has me in ponder, how perfect can a human actually be? Aristotle describes the perfect human as the golden mean, one whom is nestled between two extremes, one of excess and the other of deficiency. A person of perfect average; courage, generosity, template and honesty. Socrates describes the opposite, that everything has an ideal thing. He educates that everything we see is a thing of something ideal. Is Juliet the average mean, or the perfect ideal? Based on my interpretation of Romeo’s words in Line 44 of Act 1 Scene 5, he is describing Juliet to be the perfect ideal. Romeo is saying that Juliet is the light that all lights are trying to be. In contrast to Romeo’s thinking, I find it hard to see how something can be the mould of all other beautiful things, how there can be one who is the true, most beautiful. Perhaps Juliet is spectacularly average. Has the perfect balance of the three ingredients to beauty; symmetry, proportion and harmony.

Throughout the first act of Romeo and Juliet the controversy of love a choice or a force, the three persons which make up a human and the contrast between beautiful things as the perfect ideal or the average mean are things that can be discussed. As humans it seems as though we spend our lives in search for love. We are in search for hopefulness, which always seems to be followed by disappointment. We set barriers in attempt to block out situations that may send fear to our brains, harm to our bodies or distress to our emotions.








Our bodies are a mystery. One moment we can feel like we are on top of the world, the next like we are falling into a trap set by satin. As human beings we have the intelligence to express our thoughts and feelings in many ways. We obtain the power of free will; having the ability to think as we wish, hear the things we want to hear, and believe the words that seem to puncture us the most. Inside we hold our emotions; our body’s like a cage to our uniniquitous feelings. Over time, triggered feelings grow stronger and manage to bend the cage. These feelings are then soldiers in the war you are about to fight. They defend you, express your beliefs, and give vengeance to the opposition. People will commonly start a dispute with the feelings of passion and power in mind. Perhaps someone feels passionate that their beliefs are superior, so they conclude that they should hold power over any situation. Some dispute over a lack of power of others, of themselves or of the future.

As individuals we crave the feeling of being right; the thrill that comes from being in control. Why does one man fight with another over the most in-complex things? Why can you spend your whole childhood tarring away at your siblings over the same issue? If you want to believe that your thoughts are superior to anothers, you will fight over anything and everything. The human brain has so many unique thought patterns, that two points of view can never be perfectly aligned. During the search for power of others, one may find himself saying or doing things that he otherwise would not. The feeling of being inferior, which comes when someone else is also trying to become the one in power, can trigger this. Perhaps life is like a campground in the midst of summer. At all hours, fire is burning. Almost like a competition; who can not only ignite but also keep the biggest, brightest, hottest fire in rage? In life, it is almost like every individual is in constant strive to have the largest, most ferocious fire, the most control. We start a fire in the hope that we will get the most warmth, much like we start arguments to gain the most power. The divine spark, the start to our life long road to power, to freedom is initiated at conception. As people of God we have an obligation to let this fire burn, as he would want it to, aflame by the rules of the park, the rules of the world, the golden rule. As sinners however, it is inevitable that we will not abide to these rules all the time. This is when the fire gets hot, where people feel the need to conquer, to sin.

Often times, a dispute will start because one does not have control over themselves. The first and best victory is to conquer self, Plato. This may suggest that one must conquer themselves in order to grow acceptance to the fact that they do not have to conquer others. If we have developed self control we are in turn, able to acknowledge other points of view and allow the others whom do not have control over self to find satisfaction through power. Plato says that the first victory is to conquer self, perhaps this suggests that we have never felt true accomplishment or power until we have found ourselves. Gaining control over your body, its emotions, thoughts and feelings is difficult and nearly impossible this day and age. We are influenced by so many things that it seems natural that a person finds it hard to see the truth. As human beings we experiment new ways of discovering, we try new things in order to come up with a solution to a problem. Perhaps we fight in attempt to find ourselves or even to compensate for the feeling of self, which we do not have, by attempting to take over another’s self.

It seems as though the future is uncontrollable. You spend your whole life making choices- what you are going to eat for breakfast, if you are going to take a job you were offered, if you are going to wear your socks to bed- but in the end it seems as though you do not have a choice as to what happens on the larger scale. As people we fear and get anxious. For what? We run our lives based on the clock, we have structure and routine. Traditions have been established and there have been classes placed upon society.  Striving to reach the ideal placement in the world and amongst everyone else, we get caught up and wrapped around in fear. The fear of not being good enough, fitting in or what fate will bring. We go about each and everyday with the thought of tomorrow, the thought of the rest of our lives. Many things we say and do will intern, shape the rest of our lives. Perhaps we argue in attempt to gain power or confidence in our future. We may think that if we have power over what has happened today, will allow us to have power tomorrow.

Arguments are evident in our everyday lives, and will easily occur out of the desire for power or to express passion. We initiate dispute in order to satisfy the craving to have power over others, as a way to discover and conquer self, or to gain acceptance for what will happen in the future. There are many things in life that are avoidable but that does not include the nature of humans to fight.


Poetry Analysis

Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives. Man’s life is independent. He is born not for the development of the society alone, but for the development of his self- B. R. Ambedkar. As a creation of God we were made to be easy and messy. Created with such passion and pureness it is easy to be manipulated by experience but is also inevitable that we spend our lives in preparation for death. The relationship between body and soul is demonstrated in the poems Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost, and God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot by Leonard Cohen.

Signing for soul and body, set them to my name. Leaves Of Grass by Walt Whitman encompasses many aspects of soul, in fact describes the soul in so many ways that each one sees different. Allow the “leaves” to speak for the souls and the “grass” to represent the bodies. We have Souls Of Bodies much like we have Leaves Of Grass. The soul is our conscious, intelligence, vitality. The leaf is production, absorption, balance. Our being is controlled by the balance of soul. The environment is kept in balance by the leaf. During the process of absorption of harmful chemicals and the release of oxygen, the environment is “cleansed”. Cleansing of the body takes place when the innocent soul absorbs experience, then is forced to free itself from negative aspects. Tallying Earth’s soil, trees, winds, tumultuous waves(as Whitman states) our soul begins to accumulate these experiences and is preparing for the process of purification. Do we spend our whole lives attempting to become pure?  Some spend hours counting problems, but still seem to forage the feelings that come about. This is where relation between soul and body, and the separatism between the two worlds come about. You think, how can the body and soul be two different spheres if one is reliant on the other in the form of physical, emotional and mental representation of experience. Signing of the soul. The signing for the soul is initiated long before conception(Come, said my soul), however continues throughout life and is consummated during your final hours on earth as well. A present is much like the signing of the soul. Long before you receive the gift, the giver (God) has put thought into the contents. When it is finally time to receive the gift the giver (God) signs the card and you have the opportunity to, at last open the present. You remove the packaging, and examine the contents. Let “packaging” represent the body and “contents” speak for your soul. The soul is a gift that God gives us, we receive it pure, so we must not spend our lives attempting to become pure but rather we destroy the pureness and replace it with experience.

Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost envisions many prospects of the pure, delicate soul conforming into a more tarnished and beat up item. Nature’s first green is gold, such a powerful statement as to how the soul is first examined in the world. Initially the soul is seen as the “beauty within”, something so flawless, perhaps even more delicate than a single rain drop nesting on a blade of grass. Our green is gold; the uniting of our body and soul is moral and just, free of impurities. Like gold, our soul is free. However free means vulnerable, easy to be tampered with when faced with situations that question our direction or capabilities as a complete being. Matthew 5:8 says, Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Is this suggesting that only the “pure in heart” will see God? More deeply I decode this verse and realize that God blesses our heart with soul so that we may see him. The “pureness” of our “heart” is never taken away, rather forged or covered by experience. Like an old whip, the more you utilize it the more it wears in. This worn in whip carries not only experience, but this experience allows it to perform more accurately (with more strength). As our souls become more utilized and experience the golden glow of day we gain confidence in our being. So dawn goes down to day, suggests that the golden glow of dawn rises and revolutionizes into a harsh light. With dawn brings little light and fog which makes it hard to see. At the beginning of life (dawn) the light of the soul is bright, but perhaps this brightness isn’t your brightness. As the dull glow of morning moulds into radiant beams of sunshine, the paths of life are lit up and we can more easily determine the purpose of our life and brightness. The last line Frost writes “Nothing gold can stay” is a metaphor for the actualization that you as a human will eventually die, the light of day will fade and night will come into consideration. Although our body will die, is our soul passed on to the next day(heaven)?

Leonard Cohen writes God Is alive, Magic Is Afoot. Within this poem the relationship between God and preparation of death through soul is portrayed. God is alive, magic is afoot signifies that God is living, however at the same time is in preparation for something more significant. As God is alive he has to fulfil many commitments, become open minded to take part in experiences, and have the capability to follow the beaming rays of sun that the rise of dawn brings. At the same time he is actually in preparation for his departure. Let “God” symbolize the human body and “magic” speak for the soul. In this case, body is alive, soul is afoot. Our bodys are the actual living aspect of human because the soul simply inhabits the body. Although, without soul our bodies would be innocent, lifeless. As you think about the statement (body is alive, soul is afoot) more deeply, you begin to make connection as to why and what the soul is in preparation for. Perhaps we spend all of our lives to build experience for something of a greater purpose than to simply “live the envied life”. Our innocence is given to us just to be destroyed. This disposal of innocence is why we live our lives, why God gave us the opportunity to sign soul and body. We are in preparation to live another day, to live another life (heaven). Cohen now writes Alive is afoot, magic never died. As we rephrase this into “Alive is afoot, soul never died”, it is easy to find support for the ideology of innocence being taken by experience. Have we now put our bodies on preparation, and utilized the strength, experience has brought to find innocence in a new life once again? As stated, soul never died, it never will die. It is inevitable that we carry the burdens that maturity brings all throughout life, but when our bodies glow begins to dimmen the magic of soul stays radiant.

Each author expresses the unitement of soul and body in distinct ways. Birds are important, birds are tragic, just like the soul is important it is still tragic. On the outside each one can be described as individual, but internally each one is flourishing to see the bodily glow darken and the brilliance of the soul to thrive.

Dear Mr. Kent:
On behalf of my company and many other environmental conservation activists, I am writing this letter to express my concerns about your products and their negative impact on the environment and the oblivious consumers buying into them. Helen Reddy says, I wanted control over the merchandising, the actual packaging of the product. That was a big factor. The only way for me to exercise control of all those levels was to start my own label.  We live in a society where creating your own label is possible. If you continue to disrespect the views of your consumers, their service to you will be lost. Ideally living on a planet where a goal to create a world where the environment is as healthy as the people living in it is fantastic, it seems very challenging but can be accomplished by recognizing your customers concerns of your product, then making an active attempt to change. After all, there isn’t going to be an “Extreme Makeover: Planet Edition”.
Take a moment to think. Are the pure, raw ingredients of the product the things we really want or are we just paying great sums of money to invest in ‘pacifiers’ to satisfy our ‘hunger’? The most important thing is the product that evidently can be purchased for very low amounts of money. The sugar is estimated to cost about 15 cents per pound, and for the water along with other miscellaneous chemicals can be nearly found on the ‘side of the road’.  If we just wanted sugar we would go buy sugar. If we just wanted water we would go buy water. The things that bring the satisfaction come at a fraction of the price. Over 70% of what we are paying for is free. So should we ‘pitch the packaging away’? An ideal answer would be yes, but it’s not that easy. We are addicted, addicts of our own inventions. We wake up everyday with the mindset that Coco-Cola is ‘the real thing’ and that Dairy Land milk tastes better than Lucerne. We are all suckers, who are being slowly caught conforming to the ways of the majority. All people want is to fit in; to have the brands real, trustworthy and successful people purchase. Perhaps the reasoning for consumer purchase of the brands and their ‘new and improved’ extensions is that we seek to fill a void. A void that seems mentally impossible to fill, so we treat ourselves physically with the purchase of these ‘goods’. Companies have switched to Disposable Gloves as they cost less and are latex free thus enabling people with latex allergy also to use them.
If you stop to take a look at the more successful companies- much like yours- you will notice that the brands with more economic success are the ones who offer their customers a choice. With the ability for consumers to customize their product seems like just another sneaky way to con oblivious buyers into your chain, and keep them latched on for a very long time. These soft drink ‘spinoffs’ have exploded into a new game in themselves. Having the option to control what you drink, and customize everything, including the very type of flavor shot you get in your flimsy aluminum can, or how much caffeine you decide to intake are things that your consumers favor. Perfect, always keep them guessing- what’s going to come next? – Over and over we create new ‘fads’. What is the latest and most profitable? Maybe the diet coke plus, fortified with vitamins and minerals.
People are used as a jet pack for marketing. Consumers are practically paying to be walking advertisements. We seem to want to show off our brand names and proclaim that we prefer Mug root beer over A&W, could this really just be yet another trick of the ‘big’ brands?  Likely, yes. Will Rogers says: Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don’t have for something they don’t need. Like he says, advertising is an art. That must make us the canvas. Is that all we are a canvas; a piece of paper wrapped around a block of wood?  We are just buying into an organization that is bound to cause destruction. The goal of these products seems to be to ‘keep the rich people rich, and the poor people poor’. The big successful company is gaining revenue on not only the product itself, but also saving money on the advertising by having the consumers and retail stores show bout the product for free. On the other hand there is the poor, we fall for the deceiving tricks implemented by the big dogs. Why not exploit the foolish?
It is time to slowdown mass production. The products should not just be used to fill a void, re evaluate their worth.  Create products that are truly ‘new and improved’; do not just con your customers into believing it. Establish reasonable pricing, we don’t just want to pay for nothing. Take a step back. Pause. Think about your tremendous impact on the way people live their lives. We want to create a world that self- worth doesn’t over power self-discipline. With consumers in more than 200 countries enjoying your beverages at a rate of 1.9 billion servings a day you are the leading chain of soft drink manufacturing. Why not use your ‘power’ and commit to positive initiatives? Try to reduce your environmental footprint, support active, healthy living, and enhance the economic development of the communities where you operate. Be the change you want to see in the world. – Mahatma Gandhi.

Dear Rotten Attitude:

The the past year has been an emotional roller coaster I understand, but you need to know that your out look on life must change urgently. Recently, I have noticed that you seem to portray the I’m a teenager and don’t care about anything attitude. Just warning you now that you ought to shape up, or ship out. Together you and I have the ability to achieve many things, but first you need to be disciplined, mended and modified.

Attitude is defined as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behaviour. There are multiple perspectives people hold on various issues. The way we deal with these issues is through our behaviour. A negative view on an issue or routine such as life, leads to a behaviour which is unacceptable to most of society. Ralph Waldo Emerson says, What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you. This is more simply saying that the inside is what matters. What you feel and believe inside is what steers you in a direction for the future and also explains the reasoning for events in the past. It is evident that you have only been seeing the negative in matters, instead of the positive. This has led to your undesirable mindset, and is progressing into the physical and verbal representation of your emotions to others. If your view points on issues don’t change swiftly, there will not only be consequences now but in the future as well. You have the ability of self- discipline which can be implemented into everyday life, for the benefit to your overall heath and well- being. These forms of ‘discipline’ are also thought to be stress relievers, they include things like: working out, listening to uplifting music and spending time with people with positive attitudes.

Paying close attention to the little details is key when trying to achieve success. Machiavelli wrote the end justifies the means, this is not the case however when you are working to repair your attitude. You must take baby steps, concentrating on the specific details. Don’t expect a direct turn around, aim for little goals which reassure yourself of worth. The term mending in this instance means the actions you take to fix yourself and repair your mental(sometimes physical) being from the stresses having a bad attitude places. Getting plenty of rest, retaining a heathy diet, Praying/meditating and talking to someone you trust can all be ways to ‘free’ yourself from your previous habits of negativity. Writing in a journal about positive situations occurring everyday can also act as a reassurance and motivation for a complete ‘recovery’.

The strategies of self- discipline and fixing your mental self both lead to a common objective. Modifying all aspects of self can be achieved by incorporating some of the suggestions above into your day. If you are able to commit to change and are willing to be modified, you will notice success, not only now but in the future as well. Swapping your rotten attitude with a fresh one will be a time consuming and challenging process, but in the end your hard work will pay off. You will not only have the ability to create relationships but will also gain patience and understanding, enabling you to maintain these relationships for a long time. I strongly encourage you to shape your future into something successful by shipping out the old ‘you’ and revamp your attitude into something outstanding.

With the implementation of self-discipline, activities which help mend a ‘broken’ self  and realizing your capability to control your life you will learn the difference between right and wrong behaviour, which will lead to a positive attitude and a successful future. Everybody in the world is seeking happiness—and there is one sure way to find it.
