Do You Like Waffles…
Do you like waffles? I Like waffles. The delicious batter used to make them, the unique designs, the square imprints themselves, whats not to love? There is such a variety of waffles it will blow your mind. There is American waffles, Belgian waffles, Liège waffles, Hong Kong style waffles, Stroopwafels, and Scandinavian style waffles just to name a few.Waffles are one of the most flexible foods you can make, that what makes them have such a variety of recipes. There’s even a song dedicated to waffles, pancakes, and french toast. There were even laws in the Medieval Times for waffle vendors. In some instances, I even brought waffles to school for lunch, and it was good! I tell you, waffles are serious business.
Waffles are very interesting when it comes to all the different kinds. Strooperwafels(Dutch for Syrup Waffles) are thin waffles with syrup filling. Ingredients for Strooperwafels are usually flour, butter. brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. These waffles are popular among Belgium and the Netherlands. Then there is the classic American waffle that we all know and love, which is usually made from a batter leavened with baking powder. The final waffle we will talk about today will be the Hong Kong style waffle, which is also known as a grid cake or grid biscuit. It is usually made on the street by street hawkers and eaten warm. It can and usually is served as a snack. It is larger then most traditional waffles, for it is larger, round, and divided into 4 corners.
The toppings you can place on a waffle are just as numerous as the types of waffles. Some toppings can be normal and ordinary like butter and maple syrup. Some other toppings could be strawberries, blue berries, any kind of edible berry might taste good on a waffle. Ice cream is also a favourite among people for waffles, and with so many different ice cream flavours its easy to find new, delicious mixed flavours for your waffles. Whip cream also tastes very good on waffles with any other desert topping. I have also heard of toppings as weird as Cream Chicken or chicken with gravy on waffles. Peanut butter and Nutella, as well as jam are just some of the spreadable toppings that taste great on waffles. Like I said before, there are as many toppings as there are waffles.
As you can see from my post here, waffles are serious business. This is just one waffle recipe you can try at home. The waffle’s I told you about are just some of the many kinds of waffles you can find around the world. I do highly recommend you try different toppings then just Syrup and butter. Maybe when you go to Hong Kong all you’ll remember is how good the waffle tasted, although I highly doubt it.
