Equality in society is a major factor to determine if the society is going to flourish or if it is going to fall into oblivion. In my oppinion everyone has to think that they are equal to the person beside them of nothing in society would ever be achieved for the greater good of the group. But this is not the way it works. People are being judged by social status and the way they look rather than there actions, the things that truly show there true colors. But not all people are bad and think that they are higher that others. I am going to give three examples of what I think is the major issue in the question “how do we balance personal needs with the needs and demands of citizens?” I will use the situation in Haiti as an example and also use some personal experiences of putting oneself that I think answer this question.
The earthquake in Haiti has shown me that people can put down there social and economical differences for the greater good of another society that is in need. They are receiving support from all over the world in there time of need and this support is also coming from all over the world. The major issue in this I think is that how long is it going to be before people in our society forget about the incident that happened in Haiti. In my own experiences I have noticed that right after a global event has happened everyone is tuned on the proceedings of that event. But this does not always last forever and eventually people just forget and move on in there daily lives. For example the war in iraq. The news was full of stories from the iraq war and how it was effecting the world. Then you watch the news today and you rairly see or hear anything about the war except on the presidents and priministers talking about how long it should go on. It makes me wonder how long will it be before society will completely forget about the destruction in Haiti.
I am hearing about people that are doing everything humanly possible to help with the situation in Haiti. These people are not famous celebrities or anyone that we think is higher or better that us. The people that are truly helping recovering Haiti are people that are like you and me. They don’t have to be famous or rich to have a reason to help another human being that is in need and cannot help themselves. An argument against this reasoning would be the canadian telethons raising money for the recovery efforts in Haiti. We see famous people such as Nelly Furtado and The Tragically Hip raising millions of dollars for recovery efforts but you have to think are they the ones who are giving money as donations? The people on the other side of the phone are the ones who are giving to the people of Haiti. The funny thing is people think that theses famous people are helping in a great way for the cause, but all they are doing is singing a song on live television. The real people that are making a difference is the people that are out of the country in Haiti giving support at ground zero. I think this is a great example of how everything in our society seems to flow up hill. The higher you are the more money fame and even appreciation you get for you actions. And the people at the bottom of that hill have to look up and only dream of what can be.
I the book “The Seventh Tower” the main character has to decide if he wants to help with the greater good of the castle or does he want to progress himself as far up the hierarchy as he can so he will have influence in the major decisions of the castle. He has to decide between his personal needs and the needs of the castle as a whole. When I read the book I as the reader obviously knew what the right choice was but it is not always such an easy choice. Sometimes The two paths are intertwined and a person can’t easily tell the difference between the two paths. Sadly the character makes the wrong choice and puts himself over the greater society and becomes what he was trying to eradicate. I think that the author in doing this is showing that the line between the two paths is very unclear and even if you think that it is the right one it may also be the wrong decision. In doing this he has shown me that it is very hard to balance the needs of the group with the needs of an individual. But this brings up the question if you provided for all the needs of the individuals in the group would that not help the entire group or vise versa.
I think that it is very hard for people to look past social inequalities when that is how the way the world works. Every day millions of people are looking up to a select few that they think will make all the decisions for them. This is a very dangerous way to live because it reduces the decision making of an entire group as whole. Balancing the needs of the group and the needs of the individual is extremely necessary to the reducing the social inequalities that the world is facing today. If we could do this I think that the problems of inequalities would be entirely wiped out.

I think that a person’s choice in a career or job is hugely based on what they liked as a child. Now I don’t mean when you ask a little kid what he want’s to be when he grows up but what toys they played with and much they liked them. For example when you see a little boy playing with a cop car toy and pretending to arrest a green army man you probably have a good idea of what they want to be when they grow up. But there is a lot of time between the playing with toys and going to work. I think that there is a major problem with some of the toys that are marketed to children. For example you can look at a girls toy and see that it’s main idea is that you can have a responsible life and they are full of caring and responsibility. But when you look at some boys toys they are all about taking over the world and shoot-em up splash them up.
ouse. Theses are all examples of a very responsible person doing cores and so on. But when you look at
