Music Is My Hobby

Filed under: english 9A, snowflake — csommer @ 4:23 pm

Music is definitely one of my passions. My family is very musical and everybody sings, and plays instruments. I played piano for ten years and love being able to sit down and play songs. Piano is a very calming instrument especially when I am annoyed or bored. I love singing as I play the piano because to me this just completes the whole effect of the song.

Singing I have done most in my life. I don’t take voice lessons but I have sung all day long since I was able to talk. Two years ago we bought a karaoke machine, which is so fun to sing to and is the best way to have some laughs. My mom always told me how amazed she was at how fast I could learn songs. Playing a song to me one or two times and believe me I was singing it loud the next time.

I have been dancing for 6 years now and find it a great form of exercise and fun. Without the music in the background though it definitely wouldn’t have the same feeling. I enjoy dancing to different types of music and expressing the song through dance moves.

Playing piano, singing, dancing, and just listening to music is all such a huge part of my life. Without all of these things I wouldn’t be who I am today and I really don’t want to have to experience that. My hobby is and will always be music.

Gaza cesspool wall collapses; 5 dead

Filed under: In The News, english 9A — csommer @ 12:41 pm

I personally would have never imagined that there would ever be a flood of sewage. Floods are definitely not uncommon in this world. Too much rainfall, over flowing lakes, and melting ice are all causes of floods. I remember so many news stories about tragedies from floods and all the drowning. This though would have to be the first news story that I am aware of that involved a flood of sewage.

Five people died Tuesday when an earth embankment around a cesspool collapsed in the northern Gaza Strip, sending a flash flood of sewage into the village. At least 25 people were injured when the flood of waste spilled into the village of Umm Naser, 25 homes were destroyed and dozens more houses damaged.

Israel was blamed for the flood since problems started when Israeli’s controlled the Gaza 20 years ago. Israeli’s offered to help but there was been no answer on whether there offer is accepted. The sewage facility was found to be full and a new location has to be built. Many health problems came from this problem and need to be solved immediately.

I feel so terrible for the two women, two toddlers and the teenage girl who passed away from this occasion. I don’t think anyone deserved to die from unexpected tragedies and drowning would have to be on of the worst ways to pass away.

A Falling Tree

Filed under: Random Idea, english 9A — csommer @ 11:38 am

If a tree falls and there is no one around to hear it fall, does it make a sound? The automatic answer to this question is yes. I think to myself why would someone ask such a stupid question but then I think more about it and maybe there is more to it.

The only proof we have that any object makes any sound at all is the fact that we hear it. When a tree falls and we are by the tree we hear a bang to indicate it has fallen. If a deaf person is by a tree and it falls to them the tree has made no sound at all. They have no proof that it made any sound.

Every announcement, news cape, or article is about some part of the world that someone has witnessed and actually has proofed it happened. If no one was at a scene of crime or for a storm then to us it didn’t happen. If a tree falls and no one was there then to us the tree never fell therefore there wasn’t a sound.

Punishment

Filed under: Random Idea, english 9A — csommer @ 12:01 pm

If a person is irresponsible and does something that hurts only himself, should he be punished? This is a very intense question and I have two opinions on this issue. Though I feel they should be punished there are two different views are the answer.

There are millions and millions of immature, irresponsible humans in the world who do
stupid tasks just for the entertainment. Most of these tasks are just forgotten about but some lead to serious injury and even death. If someone is hurt from a task that they did alone and only hurt themselves future punishments should maybe not be made. I feel that causing pain to themselves would be a form of punishment. If people have any sense of common sense at all they will hopefully realize the danger of what they did and not repeat their actions.

There is also a down side to not punishing these irresponsible people. Allowing people to injury themselves with there own stupidity and not punishing them is basically giving them permission keep repeating the task. Humans hurt themselves all the time and don’t really care so they may believe that the fun of the task is worth the pain.

Though I feel both opinions have their pros and cons I feel most strongly with the second option. People need to be punished to learn from their mistakes and to learn to never do this again.

Concrete Angel

Concrete Angel

Artist: Martina McBride

Album: Greatest Hits

Media: CD

Cover art: http://www.moldcompanies.com/concrete/cart/angel103.jpg//

Concrete Angel is a wonderful song that really causes you to think about life. After listening to this song I always feel so thankful for the family, friends, and the life that I have.

Concrete Angel is a song about a little girl who has parents who beats her. People around her notice her bruises but don’t ask because she puts on such a happy face. For her to go through life feeling so hurt, and unloved is one of the most terrible things life can bring you. All she wants is to stop hurting and feel loved. Trying so hard to enjoy life and show no pain in the world where she is so little and helpless. One night this girl is hurt so bad that she’s screaming and crying for anyone to help her. Neighbors hear her but ignore her and turn off their lights. Morning comes and the little girl’s life was over.

Peace has finally come to this beautiful young girl and she becomes an angel. Flying she goes to heaven where she finds what was missing at earth, love. Life was not kind to her but she stood strong and lived the best she could.

This song makes you think of all the children in this world that have to go through what this girl went through. Every electronic, toy, or movie that I have wanted I feel like I don’t deserve because shouldn’t just being cared for, loved, and alive be enough. This song has so much meaning and I enjoy listening to Concrete Angel every time.

The Workshop

Filed under: Descriptive Paragraph, english 9A — csommer @ 11:58 am

My Auntie Diane is one of those women who can build absolutely everything. I always enjoy spending time with her but this particular experience is a memory I’ll never forget. A few years ago at Christmas, Marisa, Andre, and I went to visit her. After our arrival my Auntie Diane suggested that we build a Christmas decoration for us to take home. Excitedly we told her how much we would love to make a decoration with her. Quickly walking into the workshop she grabbed some wood, Christmas lights, and tools. I remember her sliding on her protective glasses, work gloves, and boots. She looked so professional with her work clothes on, dirty brown gloves, and massive protective goggles on her face. From a distance we intently watched her shape the wood into three magnificent Christmas trees. Leaning over her work of art she started to steadily drill holes everywhere on the trees. Turning to us she invited us over. Using here steady, gentle hands she showed us how to stick the Christmas lights into the holes. Since there were three trees Marisa, Andre, and I each got to put lights in one tree. One of the trees was for each of us. For the next few hours we worked hard and bonded. Many memories were made and there was laughter in the room constantly.

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants

Filed under: english 9A, snowflake — csommer @ 12:49 pm

There are so many movies in the world that I would love to act in. I love most movies but the movie I would really enjoy acting in is The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. This movie was such an amazing movie about friendship, love, and life.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a movie about four teenage girls who havesisterhood been best friends their entire life. This summer is the first summer that the girls were going to be away from each other. Bridget was going to Mexico to soccer camp, Lena was going to Greece to visit her grandparents, Tibby was staying home and working at Walmans, and Carmen was going to visit her dad in South Carolina. While shopping one day they find a pair of secondhand jeans that magically fits all four of them. Together they decide that they would share the pants though out the summer to keep in touch.

Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants The main characters are definitely Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen. Other important characters are Kostos, Eric, Bailey, and Carmen’s dad. In this movie I would enjoy playing Lena. Lena is a very quiet, shy, and polite young girl who doesn’t like to step outside the box. In this movie Lena goes to Greece to visit her Grandparents. While she’s there she meets a young guy named Kostos. Kostos shows Lena how to have fun and they find themselves falling in love.

I would like to play Lena because I feel that her summer changed her life the most. Not only did she have a vacation but she also learned a new culture and how fun life can be if you just loosen up a little. I would also love to go to Greece which is where she went in the movie so that is also a reason why I would love to play Lena. I think Lena’s role would be a very fascinating and inspiring role to play.

    Whale Watching

Filed under: Anecdotes, english 9A — csommer @ 9:14 am

My family and I were finally on the whale watching boat anxiously waiting for the trip to begin. It was incredibly windy outside, making the waves massive! We decided to go to the front of the boat so we could see the ocean view clearly.

Taking off into the ocean air we got told that there was a killer whale sighting just out of the port. Suddenly we took off fast at the direction of the sighting. This created waves to splash over the boat side causing us to shiver with chills. Ten minutes had past and we came to our destination.

Watching and searching the waters surface a whale was suddenly spotted. WhalesWhale Watching then starting jumping out of the ocean. Flipping through the air they did what seemed like a show for us. A gigantic killer whale dove right under our boat allowing us to see it as clear as the blue sky. So many whales were all around me and it was a memory that I will surely never forget.

The whales swam away and Marisa and I went down to the main deck followed by the rest of my family. Unfortunately the seniors on our boat were getting sick and we had to go back to shore two hours before planned.

Fortunately for us we were invited to go on the whale-watching trip the next morning. We got two trips and it was an experience I’ll never forget!

    Secrets

Filed under: Random Idea, english 9A — csommer @ 9:01 pm

Secrets can be very fascinating, mysterious, and questionable. Secrets mean many different things to different people. Secrets can lead to negative and positive experiences. There are many different classifications for secrets.

Secrets Gossip is a negative secret. Teenage girls are especially big on gossip. Gossip is secrets told among others about someone. These secrets cause misery, embarrassment, and anger. Secrets don’t necessarily need to be hurtful and can be part of a wonderful experience. A surprise party is an example of this. Secrets are also experiences that people may just want to keep among themselves as memories. Secrets with your close friends or family member may be the few memories that are most important in your life. Not all secrets are equal but secrets can be a way to connect with others.
