Punishment

Filed under: Random Idea, english 9A — csommer @ 12:01 pm

If a person is irresponsible and does something that hurts only himself, should he be punished? This is a very intense question and I have two opinions on this issue. Though I feel they should be punished there are two different views are the answer.

There are millions and millions of immature, irresponsible humans in the world who do
stupid tasks just for the entertainment. Most of these tasks are just forgotten about but some lead to serious injury and even death. If someone is hurt from a task that they did alone and only hurt themselves future punishments should maybe not be made. I feel that causing pain to themselves would be a form of punishment. If people have any sense of common sense at all they will hopefully realize the danger of what they did and not repeat their actions.

There is also a down side to not punishing these irresponsible people. Allowing people to injury themselves with there own stupidity and not punishing them is basically giving them permission keep repeating the task. Humans hurt themselves all the time and don’t really care so they may believe that the fun of the task is worth the pain.

Though I feel both opinions have their pros and cons I feel most strongly with the second option. People need to be punished to learn from their mistakes and to learn to never do this again.

  1. It sucks to get punishment and get big lectures. I personally think you should get punished and take responsibility for your actions that you have taken.

  2. Sweet, I think I agree with the second option too. I very much dislike that people hurt themselves or others for fun. But i guess that life and we have to live with it. I’m thinking it will only get worse also. Well It was great that you stated two options and choose one. Very clever! Great organization on your paragraph.

  3. You made strong arguments for both opinions, good! I agree with you, too. People should be punished for their wrong-doings if necessary. Although I don’t like being punished, it’s better than you’re parents being disappointed in you!
