Gaza cesspool wall collapses; 5 dead

Filed under: In The News, english 9A — csommer @ 12:41 pm

I personally would have never imagined that there would ever be a flood of sewage. Floods are definitely not uncommon in this world. Too much rainfall, over flowing lakes, and melting ice are all causes of floods. I remember so many news stories about tragedies from floods and all the drowning. This though would have to be the first news story that I am aware of that involved a flood of sewage.

Five people died Tuesday when an earth embankment around a cesspool collapsed in the northern Gaza Strip, sending a flash flood of sewage into the village. At least 25 people were injured when the flood of waste spilled into the village of Umm Naser, 25 homes were destroyed and dozens more houses damaged.

Israel was blamed for the flood since problems started when Israeli’s controlled the Gaza 20 years ago. Israeli’s offered to help but there was been no answer on whether there offer is accepted. The sewage facility was found to be full and a new location has to be built. Many health problems came from this problem and need to be solved immediately.

I feel so terrible for the two women, two toddlers and the teenage girl who passed away from this occasion. I don’t think anyone deserved to die from unexpected tragedies and drowning would have to be on of the worst ways to pass away.

  1. Wow! That would of sucked to get a sewage flood. I can’t believe five people died from this. You had lots of descriptive word and it was well organized.

  2. Its tragic that people actually died from a flood of sewage. Kind of gross too. It’s amazing that there is that much sewage to have a flood. They should definitely make changes to make sure this never happens again. I think you did very well on this paragraph.
