The country Rwanda there has been huge social and political unrest caused through the legacies of historical imperialism. Rwanda has two main indigenous groups, the Tutsi and the Hutu who lived peacefully side-by-side for centuries. The majority of the Rwandan population was made up of the Hutus while the minority was the Tutsis. Through historical imperialism the Germans and later the Belgiums moved into Rwanda and claimed the land. The Tutsis were chosen to have more political power over the Hutus simply because their skin was lighter and they were taller. After World War 2, Africa demanded for independence and in 1962 they gained that independence. The tension between the two groups was incredible. Both groups wanted more political power over the other. The tension between the two groups led to the genocide. The hatred between the two groups was so strong that the Hutus sought out to kill all the living Tutsis in Rwanda using machetes. Millions of innocent people were killed and by the time the genocide was stopped the country was devastated.
Today there is still unrest and rebuilding to be done in the country Rwanda. Decisions were required to be made not only by the Rwandan citizens but also by North America and Europe. Rwandan women decided to put the past behind them no matter which group they belonged to and find new ways to rebuild their lives. Traditional crafts were made and exported to other countries for profits to help rebuild their lives. Organizations around the world have also been created to help improve the living conditions for the surviving citizens of Rwanda.
As the political leader of Rwanda I would enforce programs in every city
where people can go to talk and deal with the pain of the genocide. These programs would help people put the past behind them and help rebuild homes, businesses, and lives. Support would be taken from the other countries of the world as offered and organizations offered to Rwanda to help would be shared with all the citizens of the county.
