Commandments of the Church

Today I learned that there are more than just the 10 commandments of the church but it turns out there are also 5 more commandments.  The first commandments are what everyone can find but the other five aren’t as known as the ten. The five other commandments are:

you shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor, meaning you shall attend the church on holy days and rest from doing lots of labor.

You shall confess your sins at least once a year.

You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least once during the Easter season.                                                                                                                                        You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church, and, you shall help to provide for the needs of the Church.

All of these commandments make sense in my mind. These “Commandments of the Church” I’m sure you’ve heard at least once before.

On the first commandment, it tells you about the holy days of obligation in the church. There are many of these holy days but almost all fall on Sundays except for two, Christmas and The Solemnity of the Mother of God on January first.
