New Bachelor of Education Program

St. Mary’s University College in Calgary is now offering a unique program. It is a Bachelor of Education (Elementary). It is unique in that it is specifically directed to the formation of teachers to serve in the Catholic school system. The program is open to qualified studetns who have completed a BA degree.

Summer Health Internship

BAD Advice

While I’ve been trying to make this a news blog related to career/post-secondary planning I can’t help but include this little bit of fun. Key Magazine featured an article that lists the Five Worst People to Ask for Advice in the area of career planning. It is aimed at high school students. It is fun - but also I think a good warning.

Jr. Forest Ranger

The Canadian Forces notified the school that there are immediate openings for graduating students. To be eligible a student must be a Canadian citizen, have grade 10 or higher (depends on position) and at least 17 years old.

Radiation Therapy Program

The Alberta Cross Cancer Institute is offering a program to train students to become Radiation Therapists. The program is 28 months long and starts in August. The cost of the program is between $7000 and $8000 including books, tuition and exams. The education requirements are:

  • Successful completetion of 30 credits of post-secondary education that must include:
    • English - 3 credits
    • Physics - 6 credits
    • Psychology/Sociology - 6 credits
    • Anatomy & Physiology - 6 credits
    • Statistics - 3 credits

House of Commons - Page Program

The office now has the new information about the Page Program at the House of Commons. A page is a student who assists the Members of Parliment by carrying messages, documents and other items as the house is in operation. They work a minimum of 15 hours and it is coordinated with your university schedule. This means you must go to college in the Ottawa area.
You must also:

  • have an overall average of 80%
  • have a superior knowledge of English and French
  • Apply by Dec. 4, 2006

Transpocity

If you are interested in a career in the transportation industry you will want to check out TranspoCity.ca. It is a website built by Western Transportation Advisory Council to showcase various aspects of the industry.

It profiles over 40 careers covering marine, land and air shipping. It is a work in progress but they expect to have over 100 careers featured soon.
