Red Deer Changes Requirements

Posted by dcollins on 22nd February 2007

Just as the University of Alberta has changed its admission requirements for the Bachelor of Arts, Red Deer College has as well. For the Fall of 2007, students no longer need to have Math Pure 30 or a second language also some courses within the B.A. program may require them. So check.

Red Deer College advises students to make sure that their transfer destination requires Math P30 or a second language. Also, remember this is only for the Arts program and not other degrees at the college.

UofA Arts changes Requirements

Posted by dcollins on 23rd January 2007

Finally, some one in the post-secondary world has realized the differing needs of students in different departments. The Arts Faculty at the University of Alberta has changed its requirements that will come into effect for the fall of 2007.

Under the new requirements students will be about to apply without having Pure Math 30 or a 30 Level Science. This does not apply to the Business department (or majors in Economics or Psychology) but it does allow students who are strong in arts but may be weak in the science/math areas!

Did I say, “Wow!”?

Cut off Grades

Posted by dcollins on 20th September 2006

At the request of a student I emailed Red Deer College about the cut-off grades for their nursing programs. Remember that calendars for colleges/universities may list minimum averages of 65% but that is not what gets you in. For competitive programs such as nursing where there is a lot of students applying, they limit applications by their grades.

Here is the response from Red Deer College:

Below are the final GPA calculations for the two oversubscribed programs for the 2006 intake.

Bachelor of Science Nursing
Lowest GPA admitted was 3.414 which is approximately 79.5%

Practical Nurse
Lowest GPA admitted was 3.278 which is approximately 77.5%

For further reference
BSNR GPAs for previous years were:
2005 - 3.523 (= approx. 81.4%)
2004 - 3.573 (= approx. 82.5%)

PNUR GPAs for previous years were:
2005 - 3.126 (= approx. 75.7%)
2004 - 3.419 (= approx 79.5%)
