Hints for Parents

Some ideas for helping your kids get the most out of their classes:

  • Don’t be anxious about your child’s test scores.
  • Do encourage your children. Praise them for the things they do well. Children who are afraid of failing are more likely to suffer from exam anxiety.
  • Don’t judge a child on the basis of a single test mark. Test scores are not perfect measures of what a child can do. There are many things that can influence a test score. For example, a child can be affected by the way he or she is feeling, the setting in the classroom or the attitude of a friend.
  • Meet with your child’s teachers.
  • Make sure you child attends school regularly. This includes the “extra” activities. Children who feel they belong to the school community tend to do better.
  • Provide a quiet, comfortable place for studying at home. The child’s bedroom may not be the best place if there are a lot of distractions.
