On The Sidewalk Bleeding Assessment Activity: Who Am I?

Who am I? This question deep yet small. I believe this question is hard to answer without clear objectives. The following are some of the questions that are important. What makes you unique? What are your strengths and talents? What is your main flaw and how can you improve? If you ask yourself these I believe that you will have a better understanding of yourself.

 

In this world, it’s hard to feel unique. I understand that I am unique. The things that make me feel unique are being quiet when I’m not needed to converse, kindness, willingness to make compromises. I’m located more on the introverted side of things, all the same, I can talk when needed. My top priority is to try and be as kind as possible when communicating. I have a unique ability to make compromises since I have grown up with a stubborn sister where compromises were needed. Another thing that technically counts as something that makes me unique is my strengths and talents.

 

My strengths and talents are the ability to work hard, communicate well and support and help my associates. When I do my work I can put one hundred percent into whatever task I’m focused on until completion. Communication is important. Whatever task you are doing it is always important to be able to display your main objectives to the associates that you are working on. Associates will struggle with some tasks at a point, this is when it is important to help and these people struggling. Nonetheless, every man isn’t perfect.

 

However, every person has their flaws. Mine happens to be procrastination. If there was one motto that applies to me it would be “Tomorrow never comes,” Benjamin Franklin. The full quote is “Tomorrow, every Fault is to be amended, but that Tomorrow never comes.” It means that as soon as it turns the next day it becomes today then the next day becomes tomorrow. By taking the first part out I can use the second part to relate to my procrastination. If you don’t know what procrastination is, it is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished especially a task that is deemed unfavourable. However, there are ways to cope with and even overcome procrastination. One method is the Ivy Lee Method which was invented by a productivity consultant called Ivy Lee in 1918. The first step is at the end of the day, write down the six most important things you need to accomplish tomorrow. Do not write down more than six tasks. The second step is to prioritize their importance. When tomorrow comes the third step is to work on the first step then when moving onto the second step and so on. The fourth step is when your day is done. You approach your list in the same fashion as before but if you did not complete all your tasks you just put them on the list. The fifth step is to repeat. Have yet to try this method but it seems like it may work for me. A method that I have tried is called temptation bundling. Temptation building was a concept that came out of behavioural economics research performed by Katherine Milkman at The University of Pennsylvania. The funny thing is that I had used this method before I knew it actually existed. The format of this is to only do something you enjoy while doing the thing you procrastinate. For example, only listen to a certain podcast that you enjoy while doing school work. I have used this method but still, sometimes I still procrastinate. It still does work because if I see a podcast that looks interesting I will purposefully go and do some school work. So it kind of works and kind of doesn’t. I look forward to being more productive!

 

I can confidently say that using my methods will help you to answer the question that can cause an existential crisis. The three questions are.  What makes you unique? What are your strengths and talents? What is your main flaw and how can you improve?. The latter one is the most important. Especially the part about improvement. “The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.” Helmut Schmidt.
