After Act 3-Response to Questions April 17, 2016

What was the real cause of the street brawl?- The cause of the street brawl was at first Tybalts unwavering determination to deal with Romeo, and then end what he started. However it mainly escalated partly due to Mercutio, however I have to put the blame on Romeo here. Tybalt never went to kill any of them. He came to settle things with Romeo, and Romeo only. Romeo should not have let Mercutio step in for him. As soon as Romeo saw Tybalt could not have been persuaded to stop his objective, he should have honoured that, and settled it with him one on one. However romeo could have persuaded Tybalt to sway from his fight, if he would have chose the right things to say, such as his current situation with the young Capulet Lady.

I really enjoyed Friar Laurence’s part in this act. Especially in his talk to Romeo about his banishment. Friar Laurence told Romeo the hard truth about how lucky and well off Romeo actually was after the ordeal about his banishment. Romeo really didn’t think of others during this talk, only thinking about how the banishment affected him and his love for Juliet and how it was cursed. Romeo wanted to give up in this act, which was a selfish look at this considering Juliet’s unquestionable loyalty to her love for Romeo. Yet he was willing to give up on the love himself by killing himself.

The Doctor Says- Love Pox

God ye good den young Romeo.

Doctor:I hear you seem to have caught a vile illness that you can not identify. It is so vile that I may need 50 florins in advance simply to diagnose this case.

Romeo: Very well, whatever will help me get through this, this money is worth less to me than the value of your help.

Doctor: Alright this will certainly cover the costs of your diagnosis, now, if you will, describe the symptoms of your case.

Romeo: Well where do I start,

-I have lots of aches around my heart area.

-I seem to be telling lots of bad poetry lately.

-I have been experiencing plenty of moments of confusion and dizziness.

-And I just cannot focus on the task at hand.

Doctor: Ah yes, I have definitely heard these symptoms before. Tell me, where and when did you begin to feel those symptoms?

Romeo: Hey, now that I think of it, it all started when I met that lady Juliet! I must have caught it from her. That lady has given me the sickness. How dare she!

Doctor: Ah well, don’t panic young lad, for an extra 50 florins I can give you just the cure you need.

Romeo: Yes! Please tell me!

Doctor: Go back to the person you got this disease from. You see, the Love Pox is not like other diseases. If you are exposed to a normal deadly disease, you immediately quarantine yourself and start treating it as soon as possible. The Love Pox, is very different, if you quarantine yourself from the person you caught it from, it will only get worse.

Romeo: You want me to go back to the lady that gave me this terrible contagion?

Doctor: Yes, with the Love Pox, you must find the person who gave this contagion to you, and spend as much time as you can with them, until you build an immunity to it. Eventually when you spend enough time with this lady, these effects will go away, or at least most of them will, in the future after you build your immunity a few of these effects will come back, but it is nothing to worry about.

Romeo: Wow, this certainly is a weird disease.

Doctor: Yes, it most certainly is. It is just like chicken pox, everyone will catch it sooner or later.

Reporter Gerard: This just in. We have recently had countless reports of some sort of contagion that has affected almost everyone on the planet, and is sure to infect those who think they are safe right now. Studies have shown that this illness has been around as long as we have, and that newborn babies are actually born with this virus already in them. Doctors have called this new disease the Love Pox. All of us currently have this virus lying dormant in us. If you think the contagion may have activated inside of you, refer to the following symptoms our cases have reported feeling. On to you Lampow.
Reporter Lampow: Thank you Gerard. I have an interview here with a person who feels they have activated the virus in them. Now, describe some of your symptoms.
Victim: It started with confusion and the inability to focus. Then later I found out I was starting to feel a sort of depression. It must of been some sort of bipolar thing because one moment I was feeling great and happy, and the next, I just could not concentrate. Also, at the local declamation competition, I was telling some really bad poetry. I have been feeling these symptoms for about 3 months ago, which is coincidentally when I met this girl. I think maybe she somehow activated the virus in me, because she is experiencing the same symptoms.
Lampow: Now if you feel you have this contagion activated, luckily, there is a great cure under way. Here I have Dr. Shingle explaining how to build an immunity to this virus.
Dr. Shingle: Alright, now if this was a normal disease, the first thing you would do is separate yourself from those who have it, and start treating it. The Love Pox, however, is drastically different. You must locate the person who you first got this virus from, and spend as much time with them until you develop an immunity to it. The ill-side effects will disappear for the most part. However they will come back rarely after you build your immunity to it. There is nothing to worry about in that case, these ill side-effects are just feelings and will go away shortly after they return. This is certainly a weird disease, and almost everyone will be affected by it sooner or later, just like the chicken pox. There is certainly much more studying to be done on the Love Pox, so we may have more information in the future. Thank you.
Gerard: Alright there you have it. The Love Pox is a completely treatable illness and there is really nothing to worry about in the long run. Only short term symptoms. It certainly is a weird virus this, Love Pox. That is all we have time for, so goodnight Lloydminster.

What Questions Do We Think Deeply About?- April 13, 2016

What does Father Paul think deeply about?

Can we confess anywhere? In private?- I believe it would be hardly be wrong to confess by ourselves, although it would not really be a confession. It would be an admittance to yourself, which would be the first step to confessing to God. Obviously you can’t confess your sins to God, if you did not already admit them to yourself. Confessing to yourself is vital for the confession to God, however confessing to yourself cannot replace confessing to God.

What does the very existence of abortion say about us?- The idea of abortion, along with other related issues such as suicide and prescribed killing, all revolve around an idea of self-hate, or self-loathing. We don’t believe we are good enough to parent the child, or in the case of suicide, we don’t believe we are good enough for others.

Carbohydrates- Father Paul thinks deeply about carbs. He believes he really needs to keep his health up since he is traveling a lot. So he tries to stay away from high doses of carbs and oils. However, because of that traveling, he often finds that he isn’t in charge of his meals very often. People either offer to make him food, or he goes eating out at local food joints and restaurants. The reason he points this out is because he also believes many things that affect us in direct ways, are completely out of our control. It could possibly relate to how people treat us, as often we can’t affect how others treat us.

Humor- Something Father Paul said was “If you can’t laugh you can’t live.”. Humor is the spice of life. Many people may not know the true end purpose of life really is, but it doesn’t matter as long as you are having fun and finding happiness on the way. If you die being mostly happy with your life, than you know you have fulfilled the purpose of your life. Something as simple as humor can really bring out the brighter sides of people, and it is what makes humans, human. Being able to laugh at our previous mistakes, or laugh at ironic situations, really separates us from other organisms.

What questions do we think deeply about?

Do we really have free will?– This one is tricky, because you can look at it two ways. On one hand we do as human beings have the ability to do what we want to do, however, usually what we want to do is something we know we shouldn’t be doing, so in that sense we could be considered as sometimes a slave to our own temptations, or our own poor conscience, that is telling us to do things we shouldn’t be doing.

Can we imagine tastes/colors/ideas we have experienced before?- The answer to that is no. You can not even begin to imagine colors you have never seen before. It begins to prove that there is a limit to our imagination, and our imagination can never create new things in our mind. We can only take things we already know and use those things, and maybe mix them together to make something we think is a completely new created idea.

Do others see the same things as us?- I believe this can not really be answered. We may not be seeing the same things as others, however we will never know. It would be like seeing a blue sheet of paper in front of you. The color you call blue may be the same color someone else calls red, since it is impossible to really describe colors. We will most likely spend our whole life not knowing the answer to this question.

Man of Constant Sorrow-Soggy Bottom Boys April 6, 2016

(In constant sorrow through his days)

I am a man of constant sorrow
I’ve seen trouble all my day.
I bid farewell to old Kentucky
The place where I was born and raised.
(The place where he was born and raised)

For six long years I’ve been in trouble
No pleasures here on earth I found
For in this world I’m bound to ramble
I have no friends to help me now.

[chorus] He has no friends to help him now

It’s fare thee well my old lover
I never expect to see you again
For I’m bound to ride that northern railroad
Perhaps I’ll die upon this train.

[chorus] Perhaps he’ll die upon this train.

You can bury me in some deep valley
For many years where I may lay
Then you may learn to love another
While I am sleeping in my grave.

[chorus] While he is sleeping in his grave.

Maybe your friends think I’m just a stranger
My face you’ll never see no more.
But there is one promise that is given
I’ll meet you on God’s golden shore.

[chorus] He’ll meet you on God’s golden shore.

Romeo and Juliet: Before you Read- Derek Hryciuk February 4, 2016

Is it really possible to choose who you love? Most people have an idea of what kind of person they would want to be with, but not exactly who they want to be with. Some people we love we have no choice but to love, such as our parents, or other really close people, because we have been with them for a while. After a certain age, it gets really difficult to love someone new.

Now I do not believe in love at first sight, because that is the same as seeing a burger you really want on your friends table. You may want it, but you do not already love it. Mainly because you don’t actually know if you’ll love it or not. Love is something you know, or have spent time with, like your grandmas home-made cookies.

I’m sure all of us have read the age-old story theme of two lovers being held back by a certain force, whether that force be their parents, distance, or themselves. Love is something that has no boundaries, unless you let it have boundaries. Love is only restricted by what we think it is restricted by. Love cannot be held back by your family. Even if your parents forbid your love, it is still there, and will only become stronger. It’s like a mold spore that way. If you leave it there without dealing with it, it will only spread, multiply, and infest into every corner of the house that is your heart. Until eventually the mold gets so bad you just have to leave your house and deal with your love.

Pyramus and Thisbe have this theme. They both grew up beside each other. Having spent so many years right next to each other, they grew to love each other. This wasn’t the ‘burger you really want’ kind of love. It was the ‘Grandmothers cookies’ kind of love. Pyramus and Thisbe’s love were both covered up and they had to leave it alone because their parents forbade that love. Just like the mold, their love infested the corners of their heart and just couldn’t stand it any longer so they left, and decided to further pursue their love. Other examples include Romeo and Juliet and The Notebook

Dear 100 year old Derek, February 9, 2015

Dear 100 year old Derek,

Hello, I know that while you’re reading this that you probably won’t listen to a dumb teenage version of yourself, but I might as well give you some info on how life was like back then in the early 2000’s, and some predictions I have of your life. The

I bet you have changed lots during the 100 years and you may have changed opinions during your years of experience. I’m gonna tell you your opinions back when you were 14. You strongly believe that world peace is highly unobtainable and that it might have some other consequences, but that doesn’t mean you were entirely cold hearted. By the way, in the future has their been a large influx of foreign workers? I heard that the numbers are supposed increase greatly in the next few decades.

You probably don’t quite remember what life was like back in the early 2000’s but it can be described using a few simple words. Selfie, ratchet, hashtag, and YOLO. You strongly disliked basically all of these things because you were very stubborn towards changes like that, but nonetheless you still had fun. Life was very fast paced

I have a few predictions on what my future has in stock for me and hopefully you fulfilled them. Back then your favorite car was obviously a 69′ Pontiac Firebird. So I’m sure you have owned this fine vehicular machine sometime in your life. Hey maybe your driving a floating mustang with hover jets. If that’s the case just stick with the firebird.

Essay on How to Make an Essay January 12, 2015

Ready to pass your next expository essay with flying colors? This will aid you in your rise to the top in the grade hierarchy. Why would you settle with a passing mark, when you can eat with the kings? In our essay we will examine how to properly organize your essay, write body paragraphs, and coherently write your expository.

Organization is key when writing an expository essay. The first paragraph will be the introduction, capturing the reader’s’ attention in the introduction paragraph is essential. The introduction paragraph is the first brick laid down to build the castle, without a strong introduction you will have no way of ever entering the promise land. To make an introduction engaging you must include: a compelling topic sentence and informative thesis sentence. The topic sentence is the first sentence in an essay, it should answer the question each paragraph is addressing. Also, at the beginning of each paragraph except the conclusion, you need to add a topic sentence stating what that particular paragraph will include. Your thesis sentences will be the last sentence in the introduction sentence. It must be a parallel sentence and should explain what each of the body paragraphs will include and which questions will be answered. Here is an example of an incorrect thesis statement and then it redone correctly, “Now I will examine the way Navorski, Frank and Amelia cope with waiting.” This example is from gevans. I will also analyze what I believe the general message of the film is. The problem with this sentence is that it is not in parallel form, “I will now examine the way Navorski copes with waiting, how other’s such as Amelia deal with situation in which they need to be patient and analyze the general message of the film”. Next you will need to include the body paragraphs. The body paragraph is the critical part of the essay. You must have at least 3 body paragraphs in your expository piece. In these three or more paragraphs you must have a supporting idea, and at least three details explaining the facts and your opinion. All of the details must support your thesis. The information must be relevant and accurate. It is also essential to have the 5 golden bricks. The 5 golden bricks consist of an anecdote, facts, quotes, statistics, and detailed descriptions.  To end paragraphs, you need more than just to skip a line, you need to use a transition sentence. Transitions are sentences used to connect one idea or paragraph to the next idea. An example of a well written transition is: “Even when Amelia leaves Navorski and tells him to go and complete his destiny, Viktor reacts courteously”. That transition is from jpeterson. This sentence closes the idea of that specific paragraph and then connects it to the next idea. The next example from panderson has no connection to the paragraph that follows it, but it does complete that paragraph. “That’s how love affects Viktor, he would have done anything for her as well”. The first sentence of your concluding paragraph is a re-worded thesis statement. Second you will summarize the entire essay in this paragraph. One of the most important concepts to remember is that you don’t want to introduce any new ideas, and this paragraph will not be very long. Another important concept while writing an essay is to make sure that it the body paragraphs are well written.

In the body paragraphs of an expository essay you must be sure to answer all of the questions, but not by asking them bluntly and then stating the answer right afterwards. Instead you must write your answers in such a way that your reader can figure out what the question was. To answer your questions, write it so that each of your topics are backed up by 3-5 clear and detailed pieces of evidence, and always make sure you provide a reason why your evidence supports your subject  (figure 1.1). The roots of your subject sprout from the sentences inside your essay, so be sure your ideas flow well, and this way, your ideas will be clearly separated and won’t get confused. Aside from making sure that your sentences flow, to keep your paragraph clear and not confusing try to use details from the same pieces of evidence rather than introducing new pieces. The less evidence you present the less confusing. Also make sure that you stick to your planner, if you have one (see example below figure how not to give enough information  1.2). When creating your sentences be sure to use the proper word, in the right context, this also means not repeating the same words over and over. Try to use your linking lexicon, or personal army of synonyms to do this. This way you can use the most descriptive words for your piece, as well as keeping your reader interested and awake. When asking rhetorical questions make sure to answer your own question, don’t go far from the topic and give some examples based on your personal life, to expand your essay and make it more interesting. Try to restate your topic in different and creative ways throughout your paragraph. At the end of your paragraph try to leave some form of starter for your next paragraph, this will help make your essay flow better.

Figure 1.1

How ever on the flip side of this, when other characters are put into a scenario where they must wait, the respond with outrage and anguish. For example, the man from Russia with the medications. Without the MPL Dixon cannot let him bring the medications in, but with Navorski having waited in the air port for so long and being as compassionate and patient as he is gives up his chance at new york for the man to take the medications. Will that man ever come back to repay Navorski? probably not. As a matter of fact he may take Navorski’s act of compassion for granted. if Navorski didn’t tell the man to say goat then he would have been sent home without his fathers medications.

Another critical component of writing an expository essay is that it needs to be coherent. That means that good transitions are used, repetition is limited,  and good sentence structures. Transitions are important because they provide a finishing touch to a paragraph, as well as opening up the main idea of the next paragraph. Transitions are used by the authors to help the reader progress from one idea to another idea. They also show the relationship within a paragraph between the main idea and the support the author gives those ideas. Different transitions serve different purposes. Developments enhance in a logical order and improve the connections between every thought. They indicate relations and patterns, whether within a sentence, paragraph, or paper. They are basically key points that lead the reader through the essay. Transitions are necessary parts of an essay that help to make a clear, organized story and to make it coherent to the audience.Transition in the last sentence in a paragraph leading to tell the reader what’s up in the next paragraph. In a movie they switch scene to scene that is a transition to the next part in the movie.Repetitions are good ways to enforce the subject of your topic, but is commonly misused or even under utilized in most paragraphs. A typical misuse of a repetitions is when words like because and other are constantly repeated throughout the essay. Instead of copying the word over and over it’s better for the writer to find alternatives that mean the same general thing. Ex) “Also Just simply waiting in the airport for the many months he was trapped in airport he waited through it all” from btyner.  Another misapplication of repetitions is when they are not used and the reader losses the meaning of the essay. This frequently only happens when the essay is long and the writer never relates back to the main idea of their story.  Parallel sentences can be used at the start of paragraphs to introduce the ideas that are in the paragraph. A parallel sentence should be used as the topic sentence to tell the reader what the paragraph or even what the essay will be all about. An example of a good use at the start of essay is from, “The Terminal, directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Andrew Niccol makes me consider some of the foundations of human nature, such as waiting, compassion and characteristics of tyrants” from jpeterson. Coherence is as important as intro and a conclusion.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” – Benjamin Franklin If your writing skills do grow and develope, then you cannot improve, achieve or be successful. Our essay has shown examples of proper organization of your essay, how to write body paragraphs, and how to write accurately and ways for your essays to flourish. This essay is about writing a successful expository writing piece organization, explicit detail, and transitions are key.

  1. The overall storyline about a child attempting to steal from a lady who does in fact take it very seriously. It shows how the situation should be handled and I think that Mrs. Bates does in fact handle it well and change his life.
