2.What are the conflicts in this story
There are clashing conflicts in this short story. Andy is contemplating the meaning of life, what the Royals were to him. He wanted to marry Laura he wanted to move to the Bronx, have a family and lead a good life. But in the midst of all this, he is having an existential crisis.
3.What does Andy or royal mean
Andy is a personal identity, those who know Andy know who he is. Royals on the other hand represents a collective identity, those who know the jacket Andy is wearing judge him for what it means.

People avoid him and his jacket to avoid being put in his situation, bearing the symbol of a Royal appears to be dangerous.

They of afraid of being put in the same box as him, they want to stay away from the Royals and the Guardians and the whole conflict.6.At what point does Andy realize he is dying?6.Andy felt he was dying after he realized he was alone, nobody was there to help him, almost as if he had no more hope. “he felt alone, and wet and feverish.”7.What does Andy do with the last of his strength? How is this important to the theme and to the outcome of the conflict?
Andy, with the last of his strength, takes of his jacket. As if he didn’t want to be associated with it. It’s absurd really, because right up until this moment, Andy was proud to be a Royal. But being a Royal caused him all this peril, and in the end he knew that being a Royal meant nothing in the long run, and again he’s in this state of existential crisis.

9.What is the police officer’s reaction to Andy? How does this contribute to the author’s message?
The officer is indifferent until he hears Andy was a Royal, and it seems as if he’s disgusted in some way. Which makes me think why would Andy want to be a Royal in the first place, seems like an absurd goal.
