Playing With Fire
Playing with fire was written by Theo Fleury with Kristie McLellan Day. Theo had a tough life at home, his dad was an alcoholic while his mother was addicted to drugs. Fleury as a child would go to hockey practice and have a blast. The worst part was always waiting for his dad at the end of the night to realize he was drunk and wasn’t coming. It it wasn’t for the hockey families in Russell The
o would have never even began in hockey. Theo’s problems all began at a hockey camp in Brandon where Graham James, a sexual predator, got ahold of Theo. James could spot a troubled kid a mile away. Sheldon Kennedy was another victim of James who has also wrote a book about his personal life.
Fleury talks about his life in the WHL and how much partying he actually did. Every night after practices and games Theo got absolutely wasted and coked out on cocaine. He would party early into the morning most nights. Even with all the partying and drugs Theo was a force to be reckoned with. He was one of the smallest players but had unreal intensity and pissed off anybody who came near him.
Theo started his NHL career with the Calgary Flames and had an amazing time there. He enjoyed the coaching staff, the team, and everything about Calgary. In Theo’s rookie year the Flames won the stanley cup and he was on top of the world. The Flames manager had a lot of pressure on him to make his team younger and faster. He traded almost every talented player the Flames had except for Theo. Lots of the team was upset and couldn’t believe some of the trades, especially Fleury.
Fleury has played with many teams and had quite the career. He scored 455 goals and 1,088 points in the NHL regular season playing for the Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks. Theo’s biggest mistake was when he took the Chicago Blackhawks huge offer. Theo got even worse into the drugs and couldn’t function without them. His body was hurting. Theo became a disgrace to the league and was suspended multiple times for the use of drugs and alcohol. While in the NHL Theo’s therapy didn’t help him at all, it just made him want it more.

Theo’s lowest point in life was after his hockey career when he almost committed suicide. He bought a gun, a single bullet and contemplated pulling the trigger while sitting in his living room. Something went through his mind that made him stop and realize he has to much to live for. Theo threw the gun out and doesn’t regret it at all.
I give Theo so much credit for writing this book. It takes alot of balls to admit all the wrongs that he has done. Theo was sexually assaulted as a child and kept it a secret to keep his hockey career alive. Theo is a little cocky in this book and doesn’t care what people think. I personally enjoyed this book alot and would recommend it to anybody who wants to read an good biography.
Snowflake- The Cause of Your Fear
In our everyday life we all come across fear. Fear is something that even the strongest, most confident individual can’t avoid. For myself I find that fears acquired when I was young have stuck with me too this very day. People tend to fear animals, the dark, heights, death, and failure.
I would say my biggest fear was in 2002 when my cousin Kyler nearly cut my right pointer finger off. It was a typical friday morning at Muriel Lake when Kyler and myself decided to stay up from the lake and build a fort up in the bushes, like at grandmas. When are families left for the beach we packed up our gear and headed up behind kyler’s trailer.
Shortly after arriving to our destination, I realized we would need a saw or an axe to clear an area. Kyler quickly ran back to his tool shed to see what he could find. He remembered that his brother Josh brought three or four saws but not one was in sight. Kyler decided that a small hatchet his dad used for making kindling would work just fine. Kyler cleared wood, so I raked up the leaves. After only 1 hour we were exhausted and had nothing done. We realized it was a waste of time trying to build a fort on our own. After we showered Kyler and my self went to my trailer for some lunch.
A few hours later I arrived at Kylers to find him chopping up some wood for a fire and I thought I could transport the wood while he chopped. Just as I went to reach for the wood on the chopping block kyler swung away nearly taking my finger off. I quickly ran to his parents for help.
I knew for the third time in two years I was off to the Bonnyville hospital for stitches. The entire ride to the hospital all I could think about was losing my finger. Not only was I scared of losing my finger but how mad our parents would be for playing with an axe. It was a long and painful wait at the hospital but in the end I received five stitches in my right pointer finger. For the rest of our holidays I was stuck in the trailer taking painkillers and watching movies while the rest of my family was out on the water tubing or building sand castles on the beach.
Only Connect
I could hear something
tanning with my shirt off
Far in the distance
But slowly disappeared
My stomache was growling
I needed food
I think I have enough money
Somewhere in my room
We searched and searched
I needed it
I couldn’t believe it
I finally found it
As I flipped the page
There it was
Shining like a star
Put all others to shame
Epicurean vs Stoic
Back in the time of Caesar there were two types of people, the stoics and the Epicureans. The Epicureans believed in material and that everything has been here for a long time. Caesar was Epicurean and was in a battle against Pompey who was a Stoic. Stoic is to believe in reason, and that humans will have a purpose in life and have an immortal soul. Caesar was very Epicurean and believed that everything was made up of tiny particles and that there was no afterlife.
There were two types of people in Rome, the Plebs and the Patricians. Plebs are the lower class or the poor group while the Patricians were in power. A big event that the Epicureans celebrated was the feast of Lupercal. It consisted of young men running around Rome naked lashing women of age with goat skin. The Epicurean women loved this festival because it supposedly increased their chance of fertility.
The stoics believed in God and that everything came from something. Pompey was the Stoic leader and when he was defeated by caesar his followers were furious that the Epicureans were celebrating like they had defeated an enemy when it was there own people being killed. Most of the Stoics didn’t believe in partying and didn’t like to have fun. While the Epicureans didn’t really care what happened as long as it excited there molecules.
Idea to Image
The deep blue ocean
Shines like a star
It’s beautiful breeze
Blown through my hair
Laying on a Mexican beach
Tanning with my shirt off
Watching the kids play
Running through the ocean
relaxing as you soak in the sun
Waiting for a strawberry daiquiri
listening to the sweet sounds of the ocean
Slowly drifting away
There it was
shining on the beach
It was beautiful
Damn another piece of crap
Billy Madison
Billy Madison is one of my all time favorite movies. To me this is Adam Sandler’s best movie he has ever been in. The movie starts off with Billy passed out with his two buddies beside his pool. Billy’s dad is getting old and wants to pass down the family business but realizes his son will ruin the family name if he gets full control of the business.
In order for Billy to get the family business instead of a long time employee, Billy must go back to school and complete grade 1-12 in 6 months. Billy couldn’t even pass grade one when he was younger so his dad bought his way through school. Billy must complete each grade in two weeks and has no problem getting to grade 3. When Miss Vaughn catches Billy’s attention everything gets turned around. Instead of trying to pass he is trying to get a piece of tail.
Eric is fighting for the same position as Billy and thinks it’s bullshit that Billy gets a second chance. Eric does everything he can to get Billy kicked out of school. He bribes teachers and learns every little thing about them. Finally Eric bribes principal Max and makes him tell the entire public Billy paid him to pass, which is a lie. Billy gives up and is ready to let Eric have the family business when Veronica Vaughn Beats him up and knocks some sense into him. When Veronica helped him it reminded me of when I kept bugging my brother to study so he would get a good mark. Principal Max realizes he made a mistake and tells everyone he lied about Billy. Billy challenges Eric and defeats him to win the family business.
Throughout the entire movie Billy is horsing around with his friends. He gets drunk by the pool, rides around the mansion on his golf cart, and puts burning bags of crap on peoples porch. Every time I watch this movie I nearly cry laughing. If you haven’t seen this movie you are missing out big time.
Writing about poetry

This year in English we took a poetry unit. At first I found myself struggling to find ideas to write about. I don’t think it was only me who found this unit tough but some of my class mates really enjoyed this. Mr. Sader had many different types of poems I had never heard of before and lots of selection. I find it easy for my to write my poetry about sports or the lake. These two topics are easy for me because I have always enjoyed sports and I feel that the lake is the place where I can relax and not worry about anything. My journey to know where poem was one of my favorite posts. One of the poems was an auction poem. Dillon bought the first line of my poem and made it into a unreal poem. It was a funny but very good poem.
Ipod Touch
I don’t know what I would do without my ipod touch. This handheld device is just the right size, you can put it anywhere. The ipod touch allows you to search the internet, listen to music, watch movies and even play games. You don’t realize how good this device is until you have one. When it comes to exams and hair appointments I never forget because of my scheduler on it.
About four years ago I bought a 30 gb ipod for $300. I could put plenty of movies and all the songs off my itunes. It was an excellent gadget to use for long road trips but it only has about half the applications as the ipod touch. When I wrecked my 30 gb I new I need the new Ipod touch with external speakers.
It is comparable to a laptop but you don’t have to pay for the internet. To me this is one of apples most advanced gadgets. I need my ipod with me at all times so I can listen to movies and check my email in a blink of the eye. The technology that the world has these days is amazing. Pretty soon the Ipod touch will be old and something new will be released.
Dive- Book One: The Discovery
I really enjoyed reading Dive. It is all about four interns getting a chance in a lifetime to dive for a company called Poseidon. When the four interns arrive at the Poseidon they know something is up because none of them have any experience. Kaz is a hockey player who is taking a year off and is here to relax. Dante is the photographer of team and just learned how to take black and white photo’s. Adrianna has no diving experience and applied so she could have a good time and finally is Star. Star is the most experienced diver but has a bad limp when she walks. When star hits the water it’s like she a totally different person she can swim better then any of the others.
Dive was very slow and boring at the begging but once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. The four interns are placed with a group of divers on the ponce de leon. Tad Cutter is the leader of the group and is constantly leaving the interns behind. For the first week the interns didn’t get to see the ocean once because Cutter would leave 15 minutes before schedule. The next week Cutter was glad to have the four interns on the boat to mark down every single cave they could find. While marking caves the kids find a Spanish piece of eight. Cutter’s crew takes the piece away from the kids and tells them its nothing. While exploring more caves Dante spots a plane a few hundred feet away. Since star is the veteran diver she slowly descends and enters the plane. While in the plane star gathers up a few bullets and is about to exit the plane when she realizes she is out of air. Kaz realizes something is wrong and descends to the plane. Without panicking Kaz gives his breather to Star and they slowly ascend.
After getting out of the water the four interns are excited about their find only soon to realize that it was a prop plane for a movie. The interns were very disappointed and are still trying to figure out what Tad Cutter and his team are looking for. After a slow start to this book I really enjoyed reading it. There is lots of action and mystery. I cant wait to finish the trilogy.
Journey to Nowhere
He was confused
This place was wrong
Nothing was here
I was lost
I could hear something
Far away in the distance
The sound of people
But from where
Slowly the sound disappeared
I began to spin
People started screaming
Where am I
Across the room
I could see my brother
I tried to move
But nothing was working
There was lots of people
Everyone scared
We were all strapped down
Terrified
It slowly stopped
A loud voice was ringing
we came to a stop
And started again
My stomach was growling
I was sicker than a dog
It was finally over
I could barley walk
The door opened
Everyone got up
As I slowly left
I realized, I was at the fair
