Turning Back

The door of the dark grey car slammed shut.
This was it,
As soon as he pulled out of this driveway
There was no turning back.

Figthing off his emotions
And taking one big step,
He turned on the ignition
Readying himself for his new life.

The silence of the night was foreboding,
The dark clouds possibly a sign of things to come.
But he assured himself of his decision,
This was best for himself and his family.

Now shifting the car in reverse
While ignoring its growly resistance
Yet another ominous sign goes unoticed,
Like a whisper in the wind.

Holding his foot on the brake,
Too afraid to take the plunge,
Too afraid to push the gas,
Too afraid to give up on his family.

With quiet tears,
He put the car into park and turned off the ignition.
The dark clouds silently moving
And the silence slightly compassionate.

It wasn’t that he didn’t have the heart to pull out of the driveway.
He had to much heart.
And as he realized this ,
His life became clear and the dark clouds swept away.
