Draw it project

The draw it project turns a normal photo into a drawing. It was a very easy assignment but also a cool learning experience.

In order to start the project I needed to find a photo that was copyright free and so I went to pexels and found a Photo.

In order to complete the project I had to duplicate the layer and all you had to do was right click then go down and click the duplicate layer button.

Then used the layer adjustment to change the hue and saturation

Then we clicked colour dodge to make it more grey

Then click command + I to invert the colours

Then clicked filter then blur then gaussian blur and changed it

to make the image reappear

And finished off with this image

Hybrid Project “Masking Holy Grail”

The hybrid project was when you put two animals in one with masking technique

Searched up a tiger then a goat on a copyright free website called pexels.

Using pixlr and the marquee tool you crop out the parts you don’t need then you copy the image

Then paste it onto the other picture and fit it using edit then free transform tool where you want it to be like so:

Then you add the layer mask so you can fix any mistakes you make

you have to know where the general picture is then you use the brush tool to draw the image back

Using all those steps I got this.

Picture combo/ Colour changer “Text Holy Grail”

The picture combo was where you put two photos in one. Then I just changed the colour because it was easy

I started off with the picture combo

I started off with these two photos. I took the picture of my puppy and found the cabin and hammock on a copyright free website called pixels.

For the puppy I had to get rid of the background and I just used the wand tool

Then the dog looked like this:

I adjusted the size by going to edit then free transform. I held shift while adjusting, that way the dog stays the same proportion where as if I didn’t it would look very odd.

In order to put them both on the same screen I copied the dog and pasted onto the cabin background and got this:

Then I changed the colour by going to adjustments then changing the brightness and contrast then fiddling around with hue and saturation and finished off with this:

In order to add the text I had to create my own image. All you have to do is launch web app on pixlr then click create a new image

Then once I completed that all I had to do was click the type tool which was the tool that had the big letter “A”

After clicking the type tool I just clicked anywhere on the image and I could type anything I wanted

I thought it was very cool how I could change the size and colour of the text. It also allowed me to change the text which was great.

Human Rights Violations

There are hundreds rights in the world. There are basic and then simple. The banana plantation in Ecuador is the perfect example for this. From the right to education to the right of unsafe work. The first source talks about child labor in hazardous conditions. They also talk about 12 year old being harassed by their boss as he ¨touches the girls bottom.¨ They also talk about the freedom of association. This one individual was association herself with a union and then lost her job because of trying to associate with the union.

The second source says all the same facts as the first but, more. it states that there are minor improvements, such as the “current absence of underage workers.” Many witnesses are reporting excessive working hours and blacklists. Majority of the workers don’t even have social insurance. Paychecks are well below the minimum wage, harassment of union leaders, and environmental and health hazards caused by spraying of pesticides.

The final source says all the same elements as the first source. This source is more specific. It says the minimum wage is $5.85 but the average worker get paid $5.44 U.S. That’s less than $117 a month! A family of four would make less than $300 a month. That explains why they cant afford social insurance.

Its important that we use multiple sources when researching topics. Bias doesn’t come into effect in this example but majority of topics have very biased opinions. There are news networks that have the same owner and tend to be very biased. When looking at multiple sources one can look at all of them and take the average. Just like grades, look at all the marks and put them all together to get the average.

Cats In The Cradle

My child arrived just the other day

He came to the world in the usual way

But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay

He learned to walk while I was away

And he was talking ‘fore I knew it, and as he grew

He’d say, I’m gonna be like you, dad

You know I’m gonna be like you

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

When you coming home, dad?

I don’t know when

But we’ll get together then

You know we’ll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day

He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let’s play

Can you teach me to throw, I said, not today

I got a lot to do, he said, that’s okay

And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed

Said, I’m gonna be like him, yeah

You know I’m gonna be like him

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

When you coming home, dad?

I don’t know when

But we’ll get together then

You know we’ll have a good time then

Well, he came from college just the other day

So much like a man I just had to say

Son, I’m proud of you

Can you sit for a while?

He shook his head, and he said with a smile

What I’d really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys

See you later

Can I have them please?

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

When you coming home, son?

I don’t know when

But we’ll get together then

You know we’ll have a good time then

I’ve long since retired and my son’s moved away

I called him up just the other day

I said, I’d like to see you if you don’t mind

He said, I’d love to, dad, if I could find the time

You see, my new job’s a hassle, and the kid’s got the flu

But it’s sure nice talking to you, dad

It’s been sure nice talking to you

And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me

He’d grown up just like me

My boy was just like me

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

When you coming home, son?

I don’t know when

But we’ll get together then

You know we’ll have a good time then

The on my recording was poor quality I recorded it on the chrome book. It was very muffled and the day I recorded it was raining outside and you kind sort of hear that in the background. My tone could have been better because I had a cold the day of the recording. You never really get to understand the meaning of the song unless you read the lyrics slowly. The meaning of the song when just singing can easily be lost in the instruments. The most effective element was the emphasis I used when I was reading the song.

Word Craft: Sunrise on the Veld

Vigilant- keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties.

  • “Remaining vigilant all night and counting the hours as he lay relaxed in sleep”

Even in our sleep our minds allow us to remain aware and watch for the possible dangers.

Skoen- a protective covering for the foot: shoe

  • “veld skoen that were crinkled and hard”

After using his shoes a hundred morning from the hot sun. The skoen  became so crinkled and hard. His feet has became wrinkled from the hot sun.

Convulsive-  Producing or consisting of convulsions.

  • “Jerked convulsively with the jerking nerves”

The buck that was suffering was jerking convulsively trying to remain alive. The boy was unsure if he should take him out of his misery or not.

Stoicism- is the ability to express no emotion even in times of pain or hardship.

  • “Suffering, sick, and angry, but also grimly satisfied with his new stoicism”

Stoicism is used in the story when the boy find the buck that was getting eaten alive by ants. He was so disturbed by the sight of it that he was unable to feel anything. I can relate to this because I rarely show emotion during hard or tough times.

Hoarsely- weakness of breath

  • “He was breathing hoarsely and could no longer sing”

He ran a full two miles in waist high grass. He thinks he is in so much control and power. If he were to break his ankle or injure himself in any way he would be left for dead. He would not be able to cry for help. He doesn’t realize how vulnerable he actually is. This relates to me because like the boy, I too like to think I have so much power.

Figures of Speech: Sunrise on the Veld

Paradox- A self contradictory statement.

  • “Remaining vigilant all night and counting the hours as he lay relax in his sleep”

This is saying he kept a careful watch all night. How can he do that in his sleep?

Metaphor-  phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

  • “He was a small boy again”

This is saying that the boy was a little kid again. Its saying he was a young kid and not 15 years old. That is impossible.

Alliteration- the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.

  • “Smiled scornfully”

The boy was able to sneak out of the house and keep the dogs quiet allowing him to see the sunrise on the veld.

Personification- Give non living things a human characteristic.

  • “The grass stood on his shoulders”

Giving the non living thing (grass) a human characteristic makes this personification.

Simile-  Comparing two things using like or as.

  • “That morning, perhaps an hour ago, this small creature had been stepping proudly and free through the bush, feeling the chill on its hide even as he himself had done”

The small creature thinks that he had taken down the duiker all by himself. Thinking he did it himself

An Emotional Landscape

A place where I am happy

So perfect like a dream

Not a fantasy

But a reality

To get ready

Pack all day

Is very frustrating

Like trying to drill a stripped screw

Going will not only be an honour

But would allow me to realize something

That going with make me better

Like a prescription from the doctor

The path was not for anyone but me

No one knew I was gone

Like a singular piece of grass plucked from a lawn

Like a seed floating through the wind

Five Easy Peices

His hands were working hands

Cuts and bruises

They were not aesthetically pleasing

But pleasing to touch

The hands were large

They short stubby fingernails

Long fingers

Like ET

His hands were working

Working on a broke down swather on a farm

He wants to be done with it

Like nothing was going right

I wonder what happened

Maybe clipped a rock

Maybe the hay was too wet

Maybe he was running it too hard
