Twilight is an enchanting, mysterious, romance written by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight is the first in a series of four books; it is an addictive series that does not let your eyes wander away from the paper. It is about a normal 17-year-old girl Bella Swan, who moves from Phoenix to the tiny town of Forks, Washington, to live with her dad and to finish high school. In this tiny town she meets Edward Cullen and his family, who give of inhumanly  like beauty and irresistible grace in their movements. Bella finds herself interested and drawn to the Cullen family, but mostly to Edward.

When she wanders into her biology class she finds herself seated beside Edward Cullen, an unexplainably attractive, young man. He looked at her for one second with such complete hatred that it takes her breath away. He disappeared for awhile, from school, from sight, but after he returns for the next few weeks he’s friendly towards Bella. He somehow pulls her closer while trying to push her away and Bella is confused and a tad mesmerized. But she knows that there’s something different about Edward, she just can’t figure out what. Bella becomes confused after Edward saves her life, from a speeding truck in their school parking lot. Bella begins to ask him many questions. She finally tricks a friend of her families into telling her local legends; she concludes that Edward and his family are vampires who drink animal blood instead of human. Because of their diet, the Cullen’s have honey colored eyes that will slowly change to black as they become hungrier or thirstier for blood. Those vampires who drink from humans have red irises. The way to tell the length of time between blood feedings is the amount of color around their pupil. The darker a vampire’s eyes are that is how you tell the longer its been since they have hunted. Edward confesses to Bella that he avoided her because the smell of her blood was desirable to him.

The members of the Cullen family are Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, and Alice. Carlisle is the oldest and the head of their family. He has become used to the smell of blood in order to be a doctor to humans. His wife, Esme, has a very sweet, caring and kind personality. She is the mother to the entire family. Esme once revealed to Bella that she  lost a child of her own, she tells Bella Edward’s happiness means the world and more to her, because she loves him just as much as she would’ve loved her own son. Rosalie is Emmett’s girlfriend, although she was originally intended to be Edward’s. Emmett is very large and has a bearlike figure. Alice ends up warming up to Bella, and making friends with her. Alice also has a problem that none of the other Cullen’s do, in that she cannot remember her life before she was changed into a Vampire. Jasper is her boyfriend and has the most trouble adjusting to the Cullen’s diet, since he is the newest member of the family. Edward’s gift is that he can hear what anyone around him is thinking, with the exception of Bella.

Over time, Edward and Bella fall in love. Bella never dreamed she’d fall in love, let alone with a vampire named Edward.  They soon become inseparable. Their relationship is threatened when another vampire enters Forks. His name is James; he is a tracker vampire who is interested in Edwards relationship with a human, James wants to hurt Bella for the fun of it. The Cullen family tries to lead the tracker in the wrong direction by splitting up Bella and Edward. Bella is sent into hiding, at a hotel. Bella receives a phone call from James he tells Bella that if she wants her mother to live that Bella must meet him. Bella does what any normal person would do, she surrenders to James. James violently attacks Bella, but the Cullen’s do not let the attack go on. They rescue Bella and kill the man tracker vampire James. They soon realize James had bitten Bella’s hand. Edward wastes no time and quickly sucks the venom from her body, before Bella is turned into a vampire and she is then sent to a nearby hospital. Bella wakes up in the hospital bed to find out that she has a broken leg, several broken ribs, among other injuries.

The book ends with the two returning to Forks and going to Bella’s prom. Bella is tense as she wishes for Edward to turn her into a vampire so the two can spend the rest of their lives together and in love, Edward refuses. The reason for Edward’s decision not to turn Bella into a vampire is not revealed.
