Voices in the Dark is about a family that lives in a country called Malonia, Properly in the 20 or 19 century. There names are Leo North that is 23, Maria also 23, Anselm that is 16, and Jasmine, 6. They are secondhand goods that live on the street Traders Row. When Leo and Maria where 15 (Its in the first book, The Eyes of a King) they got married at the age of 15. But when they meet each other Leo’s little brother Stirling was still alive. But he died later on from silent fever at the age of eight. Also Anslem was two months old when Stirling passed away. (It’s in the first book when Stirling died) But Leo isn’t Anselms father, but Leo is Jasmine’s father and Maria is having another baby here soon.

In the beginning of the book in July Leo’s great uncle Aldebaran was shot by someone at the age of eighty-six. He was a very famous man that worked for the king and had powers that involves using you willpower’s and mind to lift objects or other stuff with it. But when Leo was fifteen he gave up his powers, but his daughter Jasmine has powers and she is only six but very good at it. But using your powers at stuff that can be very heavy or hard and can hurt you or kill you. They have schools for people that have theses powers and it involves torture that you have to go through to protect your self from bullets or other stuff. But that doesn’t mean that you will feel the pain of getting hit of burning, it will only protect your body from getting hurt or killed. In those schools for powered people they put there hands in burning oil or tare and they will shoot at you and you have to think those bullets will dodge you and they will only scratch your skin.

When Leo was little and Stirling was still alive there parents lift them behind because they where wanted people. There parents said that they will come back to them in three years, but they never did. There parents where very rich people and lived in rich homes there dad Harold North was a famous book writer and got payed big money for these books. In a couple of years they banned all Harold North books and were gonna kill him if found. So there parents gave them to there grandmother Margaret and gave the money to her. But it wasn’t lots of money to make a living out of. So when Leo’s grandmother passed away then he became a secondhand trader to look for Harold North books that are still out there. Now there running out of money to pay there rent at there shop and the government wants men to fight in the city now and Leo is gonna go to fight the war.

Anselm was born when Maria was 15. He doesn’t know about his father, Maria doesn’t want to tell him what happen and Leo doesn’t want to talk about it. He stop thinking about his father when he made it into a story about his father when he was little. The story said that he loved Maria very much, but he went to war and when he found out that Anselm was born he tried going back but died the way there. After Anselm finished it he didn’t like it and burned it. Until his grandmother came over and told that Anselm father was high ranked in the army when Lucien was in control. HIs name was Ahira and when he found out that Maria had his son he toke everything away. Maria was a rich person that her dad owned the richest bank and put Maria’s dad into the army. When Maria’s dad came back from the army he couldn’t use his legs again.

When Anselm found all of this out he thought that he is gonna go crazy. When his grandmother told him that, she thought he knew that. It took him 16 years to figure out who was his father. Leo went to war, they live with there grandmother and Maria is not feeling well. She will have Leo’s second child. The third book will come out in 2011 next year. I wonder what will happen next?

In this book there is 5 main characters, Marty, Shiloh, Marty’s Mom, Dad and Judd Travers. This takes place just outside the small town called Friendly. Eleven year old Marty is outside walking around by the old Shiloh schoolhouse near his house and he spots a stray beagle wandering around. Marty starts walking home and he notices that the beagle is following him. Marty decides to name him Shiloh since he found him by the Shiloh schoolhouse. Marty makes a pen for Shiloh on the hill nearby his house and keeps it a secret from his family as their family isn’t allowed to have any pets.. Marty is worried that someone will find out and the secret would be found out.

Judd Travers is Shiloh’s real owner. Judd doesn’t live too far away from Marty. Marty is afraid to return Shiloh as Judd treats his dogs very poorly. MArty is also afraid that Shiloh will start barking at night and that Judd will hear him. Marty learns that Shiloh is very quiet so now he really doesn’t have to worry about that. Then one day Marty hears a noise outside and he goes out. He later discovered that a german shepherd has attacked Shiloh. Marty’s Dad comes out and finds out about Marty’s secret of keeping Shiloh up on the hill. His Dad isn’t pleased.

Marty, his Dad and Shiloh all get into the jeep to go to the Dr’s office. When they get there the doctor say’s that Shiloh should stay there for a day just to make sure that he is okay as he has lost allot of blood. Marty is feeling very scared and worried that Shiloh won’t be able to make it.

The next afternoon Marty and his Dad both get in the jeep and go to town to see if Shiloh’s okay. When they get there he is still alive and he’s supposed to take it easy for awhile. When they get home Marty’s Mom and sisters are overjoyed that he is okay. Marty asks his Mom if Shiloh will be able to stay in the house under the circumstances. She agrees.

Later Judd finds out that Marty has Shiloh at his house. Judd says that he wants him back in a couple days. A couple of days later Marty heads over to Judd’s house. He left Shiloh at home because Marty had to ask Judd something. When he gets there he notices that Judd had shot a doe and it wasn’t even hunting season. Marty asks Judd if he can have Shiloh. Judd says no. Marty says that he saw Judd shoot a deer out of season and that he’ll tell the game warden about it. So Judd and Marty make a deal.Marty has to work a Judd’s house two hours a day to pay off for having Shiloh and not telling the game warden about the deer. So it’s a deal! Finally Marty and his family can have Shiloh for themselves, and not worry about Judd Travers.

Her Aunt Iris is a Psychic and many people think Anna is too. Just a few days after Anna’s freaky dream she got a letter from her uncle Will saying he wanted her to spend the summer. But what she didn’t know is that he was killed shortly after she got the letter. She finds this out when she finds their house. And she must find out who the killer is or she could be next.

There are some next door neighbors the flemings: Marcy the stepmother,Dave the father, and Zack the son. Zack also had some friends one of them is Erika a girl that pretends to be friends with Zack. But Anna has an idea that their more then friends. One day Anna over heard Erika talking to Zack.”I’m counting on you to keep her niece busy.”

“I’m not sure I know what you mean.”

“Date her.”

“what?”

“Hang out with her. Pretend you’re interested. Pretend you think she’s the most beautiful girl in the world.” Now Anna knows she can’t trust Zack, but she still wants to. So Anna is going to have to pretend to like Zack to make Erika think she’s falling for her trap.

Erika had a party for her birthday and guess what she made Zack ask Anna to the party. Anna was getting angry with Erika. She wants Anna to date Zack but then she gets in between them and she gave Zack more then a friendly kiss. Erika knew this plan would keep Anna busy but her plan can’t work if Anna knows what her plan is. Anna was not just angry with Erika for getting Zack to date her, but she’s also angry with Zack for going along with the plan.

The main problem is Anna’s great weakness Zack. In her mind she hates him for the way he can play girls. But she hates him the most for him playing her for Erika’s plan. From the way I see her her heart says she likes him but she won’t admit it. After she was attacked by three men she found him on the porch waiting for her. In her mind she wished he would just leave her alone. Zack says she can trust him but because of Erika’s plan she knows she can’t.

The scary part is will she be killed by the men that attacked her? Or can she find out who killed her uncle and did Erika kill him. Can Anna trust Zack without being attacked or stalked? As far as I know I don’t have the answers to those question yet. But I’m getting close.

It all starts in the town of Pondicherry, India. There was a kid named Pi Petal and in school he would get bugged and picked on everyday because of his name, Pi . Pi family was very wealthy, his Dad owned the local zoo and his Uncle Mamaji is a Professional Swimmer. The book includes amazing facts about ,visitor from around the world that come to Zoo’s very often come and try to feed the animals with things that are not edible for any creature . For example in book , razors , coffee spoons , combs , ballpoint pens , drinking straws , broken glass , brooches , clips , and rubber bands . Why would someone try to feed animals those type of items ? Items like those could be and are very harmful to all animals if any animal digested one of those objects .

There are brilliant quotes used in Life of Pi like ,he quote in Chapter 16 , line 18 – 19 . ” My heart still skips a beat when I catch sight of the Murti , of God Residing , in the inner sanctum of a temple ” . In other words Pi is saying , I still get very excited every time he catches sight of the Murti , of God Residing , in the sanctum of a temple . Now talking about the word , Murti . Murti is a divine spirit and a representation of a divinity , made usually of stone, wood, or metal, which serves as a means through which a divinity may be worshiped. Hindus consider a murti worthy of serving as a focus of divine worship only after the divine is invoked in it for the purpose of offering worship. That will want you to read the book more and more often

Talks about being baptized in Christianity in a Roman Catholic Church located in Toronto Canada . Pi’s father was very angry because , his father said to Pi , You are a Hindu , will always be a Hindu , and die a Hindu . There for Pi’s father did not believe that his son could be a Hindu AND a Christian . Find out in the book to see what his dad really thinks about Pi’s idea. If you really like a book mentioning really places and events that could happen in real life , this is the book for you!

The book that I read was Money Players. It is about the rise and fall of Bob Goodenow and the NHLPA. In the NHL had a serious problem on their hands. The current CBA (collective bargaining agreement) was about to expire and if they did not come up with new one there would be no 2004-2005 season. The same thing had happened in 1995 when the NHL and its players failed to come up with a new CBA until half way through the season. They ended up saving the season and played the remaining 41 games and playoffs. But they wouldn’t be so lucky this time around.

After being given the reigns of the NHLPA in 1991, Bob Goodenow had a problem to fix. The new CBA had to be fixed the following year or there could be problems. At first both the NHL and the NHLPA agreed to start the season without a new CBA and to start negotiations during the season. But on April fools day the unthinkable happened. The players voted to have a strike. Leaving the playoffs in jeopardy. The players had a strike because of salary issues. After seven days both sides came to an agreement on the strike. The players could go back to playing in the playoffs and the owners could start planning for the real showdown in 1994 when the CBA expired.

In 1994, Goodenow had to face his biggest test yet. The CBA had expired and the new season was doubtful to start. Players were looking to make more money and the owners were not yet willing to give it to them. Many rookies were demanding huge paychecks when they hadn’t even played a single NHL game yet. Eric Lindros was the first rookie to do this. The big, skilled centre was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques, but he demanded a trade out of there a soon as he was drafted. He

was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers and that is where he signed his huge contract. His contract was worth $18 million over six years. After this contract, all rookies thought they could earn this much. The next year, Alexandre Daigle, the number one pick by Ottawa, demanded to have the same type of contract. He signed a $12.25 million dollar package on draft day. Daigle was considered the biggest bust for a first overall pick. He only reached 20 goals and 50 points twice in his career. After this huge contract for a rookie who ended up being horrible the owners did not want to risk that much money on an unproven player. So when the new CBA was being discussed, one of the owners main concerns was a salary restriction on rookies. The players main issue was salary increases. The players felt they were worth more money and were willing to sit out a season until they got what they wanted. The lockout was also caused because of the owners releasing thirteen rules the the players and teams had to follow. Most of these rules were pretty unfair to the players. After allot of intense arguments the two sides, in a last ditch effort to save the season, came to an agreement and playoffs. After they came to the agreement former player Joe Nieuwendyk said “We lost money. They lost money. And the fans lost the game they loved.” I think hat he said really sums up what happened to everybody involved in this process. This was definitely Bob Goodenow’s toughest challenge as head of the NHLPA yet.

The NHL owners and the PA faced its toughest challenge to date in 2004. The CBA that had lasted since the lockout in 1994 had expired and the NHL had to discuss a new one. At the time players were getting ridiculous amounts of money for a season and the owners wanted this to stop. The main idea that the owners wanted to focus on was a salary cap that all teams had to follow. The NHL wanted a $42 million salary cap, but the players really did not want one. In 2005 it was looking pretty unlikely that there was going to be a season at all. The only way that there would be a season is if there was a salary cap. If they put in the cap they could play the remaining 24 games and playoffs. The number given by the NHL was around $42.5 million but the players wanted $45 million. But Gary Bettman thought this number was too high and that they could not afford it. As a result the season was cancelled altogether. This was the first time the Stanley Cup was not awarded since 1919. The players now wanted a $4o million salary cap with no linkages to players contracts. But when they finally came to an agreement the NHL gave a $42 million cap with player linkages. Many players were disappointed with this result. Former player Matthew Barnaby said “I’m just a little disappointed that it went this far to play poker and have someone call your bluff”. After this new CBA was signed, Bob Goodenow was forced to resign from his position as head of the NHLPA. Although he was fired, Goodenow did very much for players of the NHL. He got players to realize that they were worth more than they were being payed. What he did changed the NHL in a huge way for the players. This was without a doubt the toughest challenge that the NHL had to face.

I think the book was very interesting. It taught me many things that I didn’t know. I had know idea that there was even a strike in 1992 0r a lockout in 1994. I also learned that it wasn’t only the players that caused the lockout of 2004-05. before I read this book I thought that the players just wanted more money and were willing to sit a season or two before they got it. But the owners had just as much to do with the lockout. They wanted to give a salary cap which in my mind makes sense, but the players got nothing out of the lockout. It was stupid that it went that long and the owners ended up winning anyways. I think the fans were hurt the most by the lockout. They didn’t care how much a certain player was making they only want to see their team play.

The NHL and its players have gone through many tough challenges throughout the years. From the strike in 1992 to the most recent lockout in 2005. They have seen two leaders of the NHLPA been fired and seen their salaries increase substantially. The NHL now is in a good situation with most of the players happy with what they are being payed. So if you like the NHL and/or want to know what really happened during the lockout of 2004-05 season then you should definitely read this book.

Catching Fire is a really good book in my opinion. It expresses a lot of feeling and expression. The main character does not like to do what others want. Instead she wants to do what she wants and what she knows would be better for her and her family and friends. There are a lot of emotions that go through this book.

You can’t read Catching Fire unless you have read the first book of the series, The Hunger Games. The Hunger games tell a lot about what is currently going on in Catching Fire. In the first book, Katniss had to go into the arena to fight for her life as well as a friend of hers named Peeta. Originally, the two were supposed to be fake in love, but something between them had changed and they started to really love each other. Katniss had managed to save both Peeta as well as herself from the torturous arena. But now in Catching fire, she and Peeta have to go back into the Arena because that is what was planned for the third Quarter Quell.

Katniss is not really the most friendly girl you could ever meet. She would rather stay by herself or with one or two closer friends, but other than that the doesn’t like being in large groups. She tends to get angry at people and she maybe blames people a little more than needed. Katniss is probably more focused on caring for herself than for really putting others before herself. Katniss isn’t a very positive girl and that affects how she makes allies or friends. She doesn’t like talking alot.

My favorite character would have to be Peeta. He seems like her is really kind. He really cares about people and is really affectionate towards them. He is very polite and has manners. He would make a good friend because he keeps promises. He doesn’t lie, and that is a really good quality to have in a friend. He is loyal, respective, and is very truthful with people. He would be my first choice of a friend.

People who like action, tradegies, and a little bit of suspense, would definitly like this book. I like this book, because it is interesting and doesn’t dwell on one subject for to long. It moves on, but will mention previous stuff later on. My sister actually told me to read these series and I love it. This book is a really, good quality book.

When Jon Krakauer reached the summit of Mt. Everest in the early afternoon of May 10, 1996, he hadn’t slept in fifty-seven hours and was reeling from the brain-altering effects of oxygen depletion. As he turned to begin his long, dangerous descent from 29,028 feet, twenty other climbers were still pushing doggedly toward the top. No one had noticed that the sky had begun to fill with clouds. Six hours later and 3,000 feet lower, in 70-knot winds and blinding snow, Krakauer collapsed in his tent, freezing, hallucinating from exhaustion and hypoxia, but safe. The following morning, he learned that six of his fellow climbers hadn’t made it back to their camp and were desperately struggling for their lives. When the storm finally passed, five of them would be dead, and the sixth so horribly frostbitten that his right hand would have to be amputated

.Into Thin Air is the definitive account of the deadliest season in the history of Everest by the acclaimed journalist and author of the bestseller Into the Wild. On assignment for Outside Magazine to report on the growing commercialization of the mountain, Krakauer, an accomplished climber, went to the Himalayas as a client of Rob Hall, the most respected high-altitude guide in the world.A rangy, thirty-five-year-old New Zealander, Hall had summited Everest four times between 1990 and 1995 and had led thirty-nine climbers to the top. Ascending the mountain in close proximity to Hall’s team was a guided expedition led by Scott Fischer, a forty-year-old American with legendary strength and drive who had climbed the peak without supplemental oxygen in 1994. But neither Hall nor Fischer survived the rogue storm that struck in May 1996.

Krakauer examines what it is about Everest that has compelled so many people — including himself — to throw caution to the wind, ignore the concerns of loved ones, and willingly subject themselves to such risk, hardship, and expense. Written with emotional clarity and supported by his unimpeachable reporting, Krakauer’s eyewitness account of what happened on the roof of the world is a singular achievement.

Memorable Quotes

“Four hundred vertical feet above, where the summit was still washed in bright sunlight under an immaculate cobalt sky, my compadres dallied to memorialize their arrival at the apex of the planet, unfurling flags and snapping photos, using up precious ticks of the clock. None of them imagined that a horrible ordeal was drawing nigh. Nobody suspected that by the end of that long day, every minute would matter.” Chapter One, p. 9

“In climbing, having confidence in your partners is no small concern. One climber’s actions can affect the welfare of the entire team. The consequences of a poorly tied knot, a stumble, a dislodged rock, or some other careless deed are as likely to be felt by the perpetrator’s colleagues as the perpetrator.” Chapter Three, pp. 37-38

Falllen is a very twisted, crazy book about a girl caught between two guys. Luce Price, is one of the new girls at Swords and Cross school. She meets two wacky people, Arrine and Penny who become the two most amazing friends ever. Luce also meets Cam, a former rocker and Daniel, an artist. Luce has a different relationship with each one.

Luce has had some very different experiences at her old school, and is hunted by shadows she sees. Her parents decide to transfer her to Sword & Cross boarding school to live with other ‘troubled’ kids. When Luce gets there she meets 3 other people named Gabbe, Todd, and Cam. She quickly becomes friends with Arriane Alter a small thin girl with a quirky personality. Another friend is Pennywether Van Syckle Lockwood or Penn for short , a bright plunky girl with an amazing imagination, she becomes a close friend to Luce. Soon after the tour she had been given of the school she arrives at her first class, where she notices Daniel a very keep to himself kind of guy, he also is known as moody and evasive. Luce also makes a new enemy you could say named Molly, she is described and a ‘angry pixie’ with piercings all over her face and bright pink hair. After school hours, when Luce is not out partying shes with Penn looking up information about Daniel.

Luce’s heart is caught between Cam and Daniel, You can see that she has a strong relationship with Cam, but she just can’t get over Daniel. The more Daniel ignores Luce, the more she falls for him. Since Luce has arrived at the school, Cam has paid non stop attention to her, which gives her the idea that maybe she should go for him instead. However Cam’s charming and confident attitude somtimes get Luce in quite a bit of trouble.

At the ending of the book Cam starts to get a bit aggressive, which makes Daniel uncomfortable. Cam takes Luce to a bar,and starts to go crazy. Some guy smashed a glass over Cam’s head, after that Cam starts trying to fight every single person in the bar. Daniel arrives and take Luce back to the school. Daneil tells Luce to stay away from Cam for his and her safety. In a surprise ending that neither the characterLuce, or I, saw coming Luce finds out that she has lived over and over. She dies when she becomes 18 and is reborn every few years. Another twist to the story is that Arriane, Daniel, Cam, Gabbe, and Molly are all fallen angels.

I loved this book. The author of the book Lauren Kate is amazing and I know I’ll be reading a lot more of her books. My faveorite part of the book is the little picnic Cam arranges for Luce, and the first fight between Daniel and Cam. Cam is my favorite character in the novel because he’s interesting and a bit funny. I can’t put this book down, I think its and awesome book and I hope the next book will be even better than the first.

The book’s author Wensley Clarkson, made this book very descriptive and life-like. I felt like I was actually there in the scene, or crime. She is a brilliant writer she deserves a lot of credit for the writings she has written.

” I love you, and I’m going to bed. ” Were the last words poor, young, and stubborn Elyse Pahler spoke to her parents before she went to hang out with some boys that strangled and stabbed to death. In the thickness of the Eucalyptus Grove. The four boys ( Jacob Delshmut, Royce Casey, Joe Fiorella, and travis were all involved in the munder of Elyse Pahler.

These four boys were into some of the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard of. All of the boys were into Devil Worship, Death Metal music their favorite band was called Slash. The worsst thing about al this is that they had no common sence. They couldn’t tell the difference between reality and the fanitsies. The things they di were horrible. They somked pot together and they also drnk to get rid of whatever was bothering them.

Elyse Pahler was a very nice girl. She was out going and lived life to the fullest. She didn’t think before she did things she did whatever crossed her mind without question. Only if she would have listen to her parents like she listens to her mind. The only bad paart about Elyse Pahler’s attitude is that the boys were able to convince her to do anything. Thats how she ended up dead.

The reason that happened is becasue she was living life to the fullest. It’s alright to live life to the fullest but, don’t live it like Elyse where you don’t think before you do things. You should always think of the consiquences before you act on something.

The book I am reading is called The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This book was wrote by Robert Louis Stevenson. My book has many major ideas that gets you really interested in the story of the book. My book has 2 points that really can waver your opinion. All of Robert Louis Stevenson’s book have a common them that I will tell you about. I have many personal opinions on the book also.

My book the Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is one of the best examples of 19th century literature. This book is written in classic Victorian English. Although there may be some good facts about the book there is an actual story that has to be read and understood before you can really get an interest in it. The movies and skits done about this book don’t do it justice. There are many more interesting ideas throughout the actual book than in the movies. One of these ideas is that the police officer in the book (the one who discovers the secret of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde) didn’t arrest Mr.Hyde at first when he met him. Mr.Hyde had performed a crime right in front of his eyes. I do not know why the author did that. Maybe the author wanted to add more filler to the book. It would kind of be a short book. Or maybe that shows that the detective was afraid or extremely forgiving. Another interesting idea in this book is that Dr.Jekyll ahs to take that chemical. This says something about peopel they get addicted to having power an even anger. This seems like almost an instinct for people. There are quite a few interesting points in this book.

The theme of Robert Louis Stevenson books have a commanality to them. One of the common themes in his books is the idea of betrayel. This theme is in almost every one of his books. Take the example in my book Dr.Jekyll betrays himself by sucomming to temptation. Another common them in his books is that he always deals with death. He is a very dark writer if you think about it. This darkness could have been caused by many things. But, I think that this darkness was caused by his sickness when he was younger. He was sick all through his youth. He baecame very closed in on himself. I can see why he deals with death so much. Every author puts common themes in there books but R.L.S is quite common in doing this.

I have many opinions on this book. I think this book is very well written. I think that all the movies have taken away from the actual story. To some people maybe this book is to dark. It actually does bring you into the soul of the author. Even though this book may be a little dark it is a very good read. This book may be a little hard for people to read because it is written in Victorian English. I think anybody who reads this book will like it.

The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde is one of the most well known books on this planet. There are many interesting points in this book. But, of course, the author does have some commanality in all of his books. I hope you liked my opinion on the book. I hope you read my book.
