In United We Stand by Eric Walters, it demonstrates human triumph in times of great sorrow. The book talks when the World Trade Center buildings collapses and about the peoples lives who have been altered. I dont think that life would ever be the same. It would just feel way to sureal, knowing that you were one of the lucky ones to get out of the collapsing buildings alive and knowing how many people that probably didn’t make it out. In times of great need we need someone to lean on. When I have faced hardships such as when my grandpa had passed away, I was fortunate to have a close family who seemed to pull together. My family and my friends are the most important aspects of my life.
In the Book Will Fullers freind James’ father is one of the fire fighters who went into the world trade center building after it had been struck by the plane and was structurally unsound. James father never made it back home and James feels that it is his responsibility to go down to ground zero and search for him. Will decides to go with James and help him even though Will knows that they probably wouldn’t find James’ father. If this isn’t true friendship then I do not know what is. Will knows that the chances of finding James’ father is slim to none. But Will decides to go with James anyhow to be their for moral support for James and I believe that, that is what being a good friend is all about. To be their for your friend when he needs you the most.
When my grandfather had passed away my entire family came together for each other. Without my family I probably wouldn’t have been able to snap out of my state of sadness and confusion. While growing up I really looked up to my grandpa and loved it when our family would come down to vermilion for the summer and stay at his house. Everyday I remember him and I would always have a couple games of crib. I remember my grandpa use to always say, “If you are going to do something, do it right or dont do it at all.” I try to live by this saying in everything I do in life by always giving my best effort in everything that I do. Whether it be school or a hockey game. My grandpa was my motivation in life to do well and when he passed away at first I didn’t know what I was going to do. But just talking and being with my family has helped make it easier to cope with.
Will Fuller and his father John escaped barely while trying to evacuate from the south World Trade Center tower. Will’s father was the fire warden for that floor and had to wait to evacuate everyone off his floor and directed them down the stairs and to head outside. He managed to get majority of the people on the floor to evacuate but not all of the people as some had refused and decided to keep working. The next day John and his son Will are talking about the events that had just occured the day before John believes that America will emerge from this catastrophic event, even stronger. I do not think that I would be so optimistic after such a catastrophic event, which had killed 2,976 people. I would proabbly be in a state of shock not knowing what had just happened. It would almost feel like a bad dream that I just couldn’t snap out of.
Family and friends are an important aspect in my life. When tragedy strikes they are always there to lean on when you have problems. In United We Stand by Eric Walters James is fortunate to have such a compeling friend as Will. Who went and ventured at ground zero to go and look for his father. Most people probably would have told James that it was suicide going down their to ground zero and that the chances of finding James father alive were slim to none. Finding friends like this is hard to come by. If I was will and one of my friends were like James and were in much need of help, I probably would have done the exact same thing that Will did. I would have tried to be there for my friend, just as Will was there for James, when he needed me.
In the chimney sweeper by William Blake it shows how people can be optimistic while living in serfdom. The very definition of optimistic is to always have a favorable view in all events and to always expect the best possible outcome. Tom Dacre exemplifies this very quality even after he has been sold into slavery and has to sweep chimneys for the rest of his life. I cannot imagine how a father could sell his son or how the son would feel. Yet in the poem it talks about how Tom doesn’t think about this but rather he thinks about how one day he will have God as his father. I believe that it is only human nature to have a positive outlook on present and future events. To always look at the positives instead of lingering on the negative aspects of life. Why is it in mans darkest hours do we truly see the light? In the Chimney Sweeper by William Blake it shows that a person who exemplifies optimism can rise above anything?
In Chimney Sweeper song of innocence Tom Dacre courageously demonstrates optimism. Even after his father had sold him in into serfdom he still is able to have a positive outlook on life. In stanza twenty it perfectly demonstrates what I mean in how Tom Dacre has an optimistic view of life. ‘And an angel told Tom, if he’d be a good boy, he’d have God for his father.’ Tom Dacre knows that if he continues to be positive that in the afterlife he will be rewarded for his good deeds and in the afterlife he would finally have a father in God. I find it extraordinary how people can always find the positives in bad situations.
If everyone had a positive outlook on life, life would just be that much simpler. Instead of people just being content with doing nothing about the hardships that they have had to endure or always complaining about them. People would strive to achieve a more favorable outcome and would do something about their current hardships. In life I always aim for the clouds. I always try and do my best in everything that do, whether it be an academic exam or a hockey game. My grandpa use to always tell me was to aim high cause the sky is the limit. If people put their minds to a goal they can achieve whatever they want.
In the Chimney Sweeper song of experience it shows a pessimistic view on life. In stanza twelve it talks about the sweepers parents going to praise God and his priest and king, who make up a heaven of our misery. This is clearly demonstarting a negative view. As William Blake talks about how the sweepers parents and his priest have made heaven a place of misery. When I think about Heaven I think about being With God our father and reuniting with family who had already passed onto heaven. I just do not know how anybody can have a negative outlook like the sweeper does about heaven. Sure the sweeper might have to endure many hardships to get to heaven but God asks for all of us to make many sacrifices in our life time. Those who do will be rewarded in heaven.
It is only human nature to go through life with a optimistic view. People naturally want to always hope for the best possible outcome. In some cases when people have went through a major tragedy they might just give up on life. The gain a pessimistic view on life and they start seeing everything as negative. Just as the sweeper boy did in William Blake’s song of experience. During the Industrial Revolution it was common to see poor people sold into slavery and forced to sweep roofs for the remainder of their lives. But many of the sweepers knew that if they had been a good boy, they would be rewarded in the afterlife. I honestly do not know how I would have gotten through some of my past experiences without God. God is my rock in which I can rely on to remain constant and steady.
Family is the most important gift that God has blessed humanity with. When I had received news that my uncle Kieth had drowned in Muriel Lake it felt as if my whole world had been shattered. Almost as if my whole world was falling down around me. This is why I try to always make the most out of every moment, cause you never know when it might be your last. This news has impacted my life greatly. Now I do not take for grantite all the little things, such as the time that I spend with family, but instead I try to cheerish every moment of it. I try to make the most of every moment that I spend with family and friends.
It was four years ago when my uncle Keith had drowned in Muriel Lake. What had happened was one day Keith had decided to pull a couple of the nephews and neices tubing behind the boat. It was this time that by the most unlikely of chances my uncle Keith had choosen not to wear a life jacket. Then ,”it happened,” my uncle Keith had had a heart attack and in the meanwhile had fallen over board and drowned. If Keith would have been wearing a life jacket I truely believe that he would probably still be here today, but instead he had choose not too. When making important life decisions you have to think about your friends, and family because your decisions do not just only affect you, but they also affect your loved ones around you.
I still remember going up to the lake to help them search for my uncle Keith and how ist seemed like all of Vermilion had made the trip to try and helpout. This is what 9/11 must have been like. With all the firefighters and paramedics flying in from all over the world to go down to downtown NY and help with the search and rescue. Why is it that it takes such a dark event to occur for people to truely come together? I still remember that even after we had found him, I couldn’t believe that he was never coming back. It just felt so unreal, almost like a bad dream.
In the book that I am currently reading called ‘United We Stand.’ In the book it shows Will and his father John Fuller barely getting out of the south world trade center building before it collapses. The next day when John and his son Will are talking about the events that had just occured the day before John believes that America will emerge from this catastrophic event, even stronger. How can he be so optimistic in such a dyer time? Over 3000 people were dead, 7000 people injured, and many people were still unaccounted for. I believe that it is only human nature to respond back in such a demeanor.
I believe that a person never fully gets over losing a loved one, but instead that person finds way to cope with living each day without them. I remember when I had first heard the news about how they couldn’t find my uncle Keith after the accident in Muriel Lake. I Kept on saying to myself that maybe had made it to shore and that maybe he was alright. I was in a state of denial. In the book that I am reading called United We Stand, James` father was a firefighter who went into one of the buildings to put out the fires from the plane crashing into it. When the building collapsed Will knew that there was no possible way that James father had made it out of the building before it had collapsed, but James kept lying to himself. Telling himself that his father could still be alive. So James went down to ground zero to help search for his father. I believe that sometimes it is better to start the grieving process and come to bring yourself to reality.
Family will always be one of the most important aspects of my life. I feel very fortunate to have grown up in such a great community and to have such strong ties with my family. My family is always there when I need to talk to someone and when I am having a rough day. I know that if I have to get someting off of my back that they will always be there to listen to my problems. Through the support of the community and through the help of family they helped to ease the pain and to help me to move on with my life.
The key theme of rights and responibilties is the most important key theme out of the seven. Everyone has the right to live a full life and enjoy every moment of it. It is says in the Bible that God created all humans in his image. But if we are all created in God’s image then shouldn’t we all be entitled to the same rights and freedoms as everybody else. No matter of a persons race, sex, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, and any other discimitory factors that may come into a factor. As young adults start to mature we start to take on more responsibilities. I believe that every person should be able to make their own decisions and be responsible for the decisions that they make.
I believe that God giving us the right to make our own decisions is one of God’s most precious gifts that he could have given us. Can you imagine living in a world where you didn’t have the right to make your own decisions such as what you believed in. Even simple decisions such as what you wanted to eat that morning or what you were going to wear. God has made us all unique and we should all be able to express our individuality in any form possible. Whether it be the way that we choose to look or their beliefs. Our freedom of choice is what makes our world so much more exciting and worthwhile.
I believe in human rights and I feel that there are still people of different orientation and race who are still being discriminated just because of their skin color. In WWII the Germans started killing all of Jews because they had a different religion and because they believed that their race of people were superior to all others. Also they wanted to create a super race so they started killing all of the Jews. No one was safe from the Nazi’s wrath. Now a day it might not be violent when you compare the 6 million Jews that died during the Holocaust. But regardless you still see people such as the KKK who still discriminate against people of different ethnicity.
In todays society I always hear parents talking about how lucky we are to live a free society. But if we live in a free society why is it that we have so many rules and regulations that we must follow? I feel like my whole life has been planned out for me. Like I am on a train that is already bound for its final destination and I am only a passenger on it. That no matter what I do I will still end up at the same terminal. I feel that our parents have alot to do with this because they always try and push us down the path that they feel will be more successful. This I can also relate to the government. The government keeps on making schooling so much harder to push us to always be smarter then the generation before us was. But at the same time it is almost as if they are taking all of our rights of choice away.
When people make a choice we must be responsible for any consequences that might reside from making that choice. I believe that the only way to truly succeed is to be responsible and learn from our mistakes. Everyone has the right to be unique and different from everybody else. If everybody was the same and nobody had the right to freedom of choice it would make life so much more boring. This is why I always believe in being true to myself in doing what I believe is right.
The reason that there was a conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees was because Jesus saw everyone as equal and worthwhile. Where the Pharisees saw everyone who was different from them as unworthy. These two peoples beliefs differed so much that it was only a matter of time before they would but heads and a conflict would occur. Jesus taking the higher road believed that everyone was equal while the Pharisees believed that they were chosen by God and that they were better then everyone else.
Jesus tried to drastically improve this world that we live in by trying to improve the lives of everybody around him. The more miracles and good deeds that Jesus performed the more that people started to follow him. The Pharisees did not like that and in the end, ended up killing Jesus because of this. All Jesus wanted to do was make this world a better place to live in and show that God actually existed and people should believe in him. I believe that everyone should be treated equally, and the Pharisees didn’t want this. They wanted a class system.
If the Pharisees were so intent on making Judaism strong again they should help the people that can’t afford or are too mentally ill to live this way. The Pharisees Just assume that people aren’t willing to practise the Judaism while actually, most of them just couldn’t afford to.
God has always played an important part in my life. As I am a firm believer of Christianity. I base many of my day to day decisions on my belief in God. I believe that what God wants for me is to be the best possible me. Someone who isn’t afraid to stick out is neck to stand up for what he truly believes is right. To follow the light and to not stray from the path that God has laid down before my feet. God has left it in my hands to make my own life decisions. I believe that God has a purpose for me in this life. Even though I might not know it yet.
I believe that God has made me uniquely different from anybody that I know. I believe that God created us different because how boring would it be if we were all acted the same. God gave us a free will so that we can express our opinions and expressions which are different from anybody else. The only thing that God asks in return is that we follow his teachings and commandments. Also that we always try to do the right thing and to not stray to far from Gods path. We are all God’s children as we are all called to do our part to make this world a better place to live in.
I have many interests, in which most of them are sports. My favorite sport is hockey because I feel that I am really good at it and I always have fun while playing it. Some of my other interests include going quading, sledding, and just hanging out with my friends.Overall I believe that I am a well rounded person, not exceptional in anything nor horrible. But I am far from perfect as I do make mistakes sometimes. It is how we learn form our mistakes which is important. Some of my weaknesses include such sports as basketball and anything that involves jumping as I have no vertical.
Everyone has weaknesses that they can improve on, and everyone have there strengths or something that they are good at. No can be perfect at everything and thats alright. It is our strengths and weaknesses which makes everyone unique from anybody else. Even when you make mistakes God knows that everyone makes mistakes and he will forgive you if you ask it from him.
As I reflect on what kind person that I have grown to be and the person that I want to strive to be. I realize that I have made some mistakes over my life. Some of these mistakes I cannot take back. My parents have always told me to strive to be the best possible version of myself as I could. As my grandpa use to always say, “If you are going to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all.” I have tried to live most of my life by this motto form hearing it so much while growing up.
I try to live my life as if I am playing a shift in a hockey game. Every time I go out onto the ice for a shift in a hockey game I make sure to give it my all. To leave it all on the ice. This is how I like to live my life. To give it a 110% If I make a mistake on the ice, I know that one of my teammates will have back. This is comparable to real life problems. Sometimes I might drop the ball and make a mistake. But when I do I know that my friends and family will help me to get back on track.
I believe that through playing hockey that I have gained many important life skills. These skills have helped me to become the man that I am today. Such qualities that I have learned through playing hockey are teamwork, listening to my coaches attentively, and being a leader. These skills apply to every day life. When I am doing group assignments at school, I know that I have a role in our group to accomplish our assignment. In our leadership coarse that I took two years ago in school I learned that if everyone weren’t followers but would rather stand up for what they believe in. It would make this world a much better place to live in.
What kind of person am I becoming? As I look back on my life to see the person that I am becoming. I know that I have had to overcome many adversities in my life. To overcome these struggles I have had to look deep into myself to overcome these obstacles. But I know that I still have room for improvement. I would like to become more forgiving and less judgmental of other people that I do not even know. Instead of just always just sitting back and being the passenger, I would rather be the driver. A person who leads through example, instead of just through words. I realize that I have to stop being so passive and more outgoing in my community.
I have a long list of desirable traits that I wish that I had. I want to be courageous person who isn’t afraid to stand up for what I believe in. But in reality I wont just wake up one morning and gain all of these traits over night. I have to work hard to accomplish my goals. If I even work hard it is unrealistic to think that it is possible to accomplish all of these goals. Everybody sins and nobody is perfect.
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong
Headstrong we’re Headstrong
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong
and This is not where you belong
I can’t give everything away
I won’t give everything away
It feels like when Trapt wrote this song was wrote about me. This song talks about never taking shit from no one. About standing up for what I believe in and not letting what anyone says or does affect these beliefs. In todays world people are always outspoken and they just cave in to the majority. I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion and that they should always express there own opinions. If no one took a stand for what they believed in then we would all be the same. This would just make life boring and insignificant.
If no one stood up for themselves and just caved into what society wanted, then there wouldn’t be any diversity in our world. It would be like BNW (Brave New World) where every one acts the same and people who are even slightly different are told to take drugs to suppress their problems. In reality though it isn’t the people who are different who have problems. I think that the reason why people were suppressing their thoughts in BNM, was because everyone was scared to stick their head out and be labeled as different. If they would have stopped taking those soma pills they would have realized that their little perfect utopia wasn’t so perfect.
Trapt is an inspiration to many people. Trapt has come out with many other hit songs in which I believe that they are talking to todays youth through there music. They are trying to relate their music to todays youth’s beliefs, and problems. I believe that Trapt is using a great strategy in getting youth to listen to their music. Instead of writing music that relates to them as people they are relating the music towards to youth of the nation. This is a key part of the music industry now a day cause it makes it easier for the youth to relate to the music.
