The awful burden of the unsolved riddles of existence

Have you ever heard of the famous greek philosopher Socrates? Well he gave humans the idea of questioning everything. Father Mike Schmitz also says to question everything. There are some questions that will really make you think and it is impossible today to find the truth to those questions. Some of these questions are a little creepy but also at the same time interesting.

Technology has become a huge part of our lives in the last couple decades. There are times when it can get quite overwhelming after the constant use. It is very uncommon to see a person without a cell phone in their pocket or hands. With new smartphones and gaming systems coming out almost every month, it can be hard to say no to electronics sometimes. Technology seems to have become an addiction to people. If you asked someone to stay away from their phones for a weekend I would bet money they wouldn’t be able to. Our life patterns also involve technology. From alarm clocks to our stoves we use these things almost every single day. Don’t get me wrong though, technology has many great impacts on our lives. Think about having to cook all of your meals without technology, think of getting places without technology.  We all have to ask ourselves is does technology also put a lot of stress on our lives. We should also ask ourselves, do we control technology or does technology control us.

Can you doubt that you exist? This is a question that really involves some thinking. René Descartes, a french scientist and mathematician, believes that to find a truth you have to doubt or push away all other beliefs that you have and start from scratch. This means that you should question every belief you had and start new. But is it that easy to really doubt that you exist? A reason to believe that we do believe exist is because you are thinking about this right now. If you were to not exist how would you be thinking of that theory. Some interesting points have been noted on this by random people. Like what if we are just a group of thoughts at a time and potentially a different person than moments before. Or that we are dreaming from our eternal brain and we just keep dreaming over and over. These theories could possibly lead to the discovery of our existence.

Can computers think? Well in a way they can. Computers do whatever they were designed to do(so that means they do not have free will). In order to be able to think you have to have free will. The answer to this question on google is no they can not think but in a way they can. When you type something in your google browser or safari the computer has to think about what you said. People usually spell things wrong so the computer has to figure out what was said. The computer is programmed to do that but still in a way computers must be able to think somewhat.

These unsolved riddles I guess will not be explained any time soon but they are sure to make your mind stop and really think. From technology controlling us to computers being able to think it is hard to figure out the answers to the ussolved mysteries of existence.

Summary: It is just like what path you want to take when you are older the good one or the bad one

Luke 10:38-42

Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying.  Mary sat listening to the lord while Martha (mary’s sister) did work. Martha wanted mary’s help to do the jobs but she was listening to Jesus.  Martha asked Jesus for his help to tell Mary to help her do her work but Jesus tells her that Mary chose the best choice, to listen to Jesus.

Mary was listening to Jesus but Martha was too distracted to listen. Martha wanted God to fix her problems but Mary would sit and listen to God rather than help Martha.

Mary chose to listen and learn to Jesus rather than Martha was distracted and did not want to listen to Jesus.

Mary listened to Jesus to what he had to say rather than help Martha.  I think Mary is going to do nothing to help and listen to God.

John 11:5-6   Lazarus grows ill and Jesus stays with him for 2 days while Mary and Martha leave. Jesus loved them all and felt the need to stay longer for Lazarus because he was sick.Jesus loved all three of them and felt the need to stay with Lazarus because he was very ill and the other two were not so he left them to stay with him.  He stayed two days longer so he was there for Lazarus. Jesus’s attitude towards Martha, Mary, and Lazarus is that he loved them all and he even stayed two days because he was ill and didn’t want him to be alone. Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus and when he found out that Lazarus was ill he stayed for 2 days because he didn’t want to be left alone.

Summary- John 11:20-22 Martha went to see Jesus and Mary stayed home.  Martha was then upset with Jesus because Lazarus had died. Martha blames God for Lazarus dying. I don’t think that Martha has a good relationship with God or she wouldn’t blame him. Martha’s faith is not based on logic was based on just her opinion, it would not make sense if someone is not there and someone dies that the person who is not there it’s their fault. Martha’s faith was based on that she had lost her trust in God and she blames him for letting Lazarus for dying.  I think she had a good relationship with him until he died and then now she doesn’t have a good relationship because of blaming him for letting Lazarus die. Martha’s faith in the lord is based on her relationship with Jesus because she believes that if Jesus was with her brother he wouldn’t have died and she had faith that if he stayed he wouldn’t have died. Lazarus dies and Martha believes if Jesus stayed he would still be alive.

Romans 7:14-23 Who does Paul talk about as he tries to explain law and grace. Paul speaks of sin and how it makes him make the wrong choices and do what he does not want to do. Paul is talking about himself and how he is sinning. The passage talks about how Paul is admitting that he has sinned and that he does not do what he wants to do but what he hates.

Exodus 4:10-17

Exodus 4:10-17 Moses told the Lord to pardon his servants because he has never been eloquent not in the past or since he spoke to them. The Lord said back that he is slow of speech and tough and because Moses complained that he could not speak well, God appointed Aaron as Moses’ “prophet”. At the command of Moses, he took his staff. Then he stretched out his rod to bring on the first three signs. It says that Moses isn’t the best and equal to everyone else. And he wants Jesus to speak to everyone doesn’t matter what’s wrong with them. And that will make his heart happy. What is Aaron’s role? Aaron’s role was to speak for Moses from Jesus.

Acts 8:26-38 The angel told Philip to go south to the road that leads from Jerusalem to Gaza. There he would worship Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. Philip is taken by the Holy Spirit to meet a highly placed Ethiopian court official who is reading Isaiah on the way home from Jerusalem. The Ethiopian asks for and receives baptism as a believer in Jesus as God’s Messiah, promised by Isaiah.

It’s about he said to go to the road south of Jerusalem go to court official of the cadence queen of the Ethiopians. He came to Jerusalem to worship and return home he was reading the prophet Isaiah. He had Philip help him understand the bible. And taught him the good news about Jesus. They found water and said what is to stop him from getting baptized and they stopped and Philip baptized him. Who are the two people in this story? Philip and Eunuch Why does one of them choose to be baptized?.

As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized!“He commanded the chariot to stop,” and both of them, Philip and the eunuch, went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

1 Samuel 16:23- His music is helping to heal the soul of the people and ward the evil through the joint passion of music. He also helped him to see that music can connect people. Who calms Saul and how?David calms Saul by playing the Lyre

2 Chronicles 5:11-14- Priests and musicians gathered to share in the art of music to show their faith in alternative means. What happens right before God’s presence fills the temple? They all gather in song and prayer together to show the lord their devotion and faith

John 1:3-9 – Jesus is described as the beginning of life and all-new creation. Without him, nothing would have been created. There would be no light to overcome the darkness.  John was sent by God to prove to people that he is true.

Mark 13:24-27 – Jesus describes the world in chaos, with the sun going dark. Then he says he will come in his glory, and bring light back to the world. If you’re in the dark, Jesus can bring the light back.

Ezekiel 1: 4-28 – Ezekiel uses images to help understand God.  Ezekiel explained what he saw. He told about the four creatures,  that they had four different heads, and they had 2 wings each. He said they walked in a line with their wings touching and went with the spirit, never turning. Ezekiel also explained about the clouds and wind the creatures were surrounded by.

Luke 5:4-11

When does Peter first begin to understand Jesus? Peter started to understand Jesus when Simon and Peter pulled the nets full of fish into the boat and the boat started sinking.  Peter fell to his knees, saying that Jesus shouldn’t help him because he had sinned. Jesus said to Peter that he was forgiven and that He can teach them about His forgiveness.

Matthew 14:24-33

What does Peter do when he sees Jesus? Jesus appeared to the disciples and said, “Take heart, it is I, do not be afraid”  Peter then answered Jesus and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water”. Peter did not react the same way as the other disciples that saw, and feared Jesus.  Instead, Peter answered Jesus’ question and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus then said, “Come.” As Peter got out of the boat, he then started walking on the water and came towards Jesus. While Peter was walking towards Jesus, Peter noticed a strong wind, and began to sink he then cried out to Jesus, “Lord save me!” Jesus then immediately reached out his hand and caught him. Jesus then said “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”. When Peter sees Jesus he answers, and follows him out onto the water.

Matthew 17:1-8

What does Peter suggest in this passage? Peter suggests that these mountains are a great place to be, so he says he can make three dwellings for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah.  Peter suggests that these mountains are a great place because the sun lights up Jesus’ face like lanterns, and Jesus talks to them shortly after his clothes became dazzling white.

John 13:3-10

What does Jesus do?  How does Peter respond? This passage is from the time around Jesus’ Passion.  Holy Thursday; when Jesus and His disciples are having the Last Supper in the upper room.  Jesus presents himself to his disciples as a servant, and washes their feet in a basin. When Jesus offers to clean him, Peter responds in a stubborn manner, stating that unless Peter washes Jesus’ feet, Jesus can have no share with him.  Simon Peter continues to say that if Jesus is to clean His disciples, He should not only wash his feet but also his hands and his head.

Based on these passages, which of the intelligences does Peter often use to understand and respond to Jesus?

Based on these passages, I can infer that Peter responds to Jesus with interpersonal intelligence.  Interpersonal intelligence is knowledge derived from social interaction with other people. In the first passage, Peter displays great humility, but Jesus forgave Peter, and offered to teach Peter of his great forgiveness.  This tells us that Peter knows Jesus would have some form of response to his actions, thus further confirming his knowledge of interpersonal intelligence. Passage two further develops Peter’s responses to Jesus. We read of Peter’s response to Jesus’ pleas for him to come out onto the water with him.  Peter comes as Jesus commands him. In passage three, Peter recognizes the presence of others, and offers to make dwellings for them. Passage four shows another act of Peter’s humility, telling Jesus that his feet, hands and head all need to be washed to really be clean.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5  What does Paul say helped reveal the power of the spirit? Paul reveals the power of the spirit by saying he chose not to know nothing among him except for Jesus Christ and him being crucified. He came to the spirit and said this he was in fear. He also asked for his help in what to do.

2 Corinthians

Paul understands that in his grace the law that God has given him is visible.  Which of the intelligence is Paul using in these passages to help people understand God? Paul used fear as his intelligence to face the fears of the spirit.

2 examples of the importance and/or value of musical intelligence are that it can heal the soul and you are able to recognize different pitches.

3 people who are word smart are Ezekiel because

he uses images and explains what Jesus looks like. Another person is Mary because she was a good writer. The last person is Paul. Paul is word smart because he understands the law and he is smart about stuff like reading and writing. 2 people that use logical intelligence are Ezekiel because he can put pictures with words and study them and the second one is Ezekiel uses images to understand god. She expanded to god the animals had different heads and when they walked they touched their wings with there spirit. Ezekiel also expanded about the clouds that the animals were surrounded by.  Matthew 17:1-8, Ezekiel 1: 4-28, Acts 8:26-38 are all passages that talk about spatial intelligence.

Commandments of the Church

From my understanding, these commandments are relevant to the catholic church. They are called the Commandments of the Church but they are also known as the Precepts of the Church. In modern times there are five of these commandments. The fourth commandment says You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church. This means that you should have abstinence from meat but that does not include fish. They all tell you some expectations of being Catholic.

  1. You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor
  2. You shall confess your sins at least once a year.
  3. You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least once during the Easter season.
  4. You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.
  5. You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church.

The holy days of obligation for 2019 are:

  • Tuesday, January.1st
  • Thursday, May 20th
  • Thursday, August 15th
  • Friday, November 1st
  • Monday, December 9th
  • Wednesday, December 25th

All of these days do not land on a Sunday.

Fr Joys first visit

Today Father Joy, our new priest came and introduced himself to us. He is a priest who took over for Father Roger who left last year. He is from India and he told us his story today. He has always had an interest in being a priest. Father Joy was given the choice to go be a priest in Germany but said no because he thought it would be too difficult to learn the language. He later was given the opportunity to be a priest in Edmonton at St. Tereasa and St. Thomas. After he was there he came to Vermilion to work at the Holy Name Of Jesus church. Father shared with us that more people live in his province of India than in Canada. He said that it is very crowded there and there are no empty lots like there are in Canada. The main resource in India is spices. education and health care are not free in India as opposed to here. The weather in India is almost always from twenty degrees Celcius to thirty degrees Celcius. He is from Kerala which is a province in India.

In my survey, my motivation type is support which means that I like being in a place where my employees and leaders respect me and will help me and support me when getting a task done. I find that this is true because I can do things better when people are there to support me and I have a backup plan if I need it. I like to have managers and leaders that are responsible and will help me get the job done.

Knowledge Survey

My top subject area is physical education. I really want to be a gym teacher and a pro sports player so those fit in that topic well. My second and third subject areas were social science and business. With social science, I get a better understanding of the society I live in and other cultures. I have always had a liking of social studies in school so I can see why the survey results had that on there. My third subject area is business and I really like that one because some of the occupations I want when I’m older include business like a Lawyer which also fits in with social science. After those came computers, language arts, and mathematics which were less than all of the other subject areas .

Ten Commandments

  1. I am the LORD your God:

you shall not have

strange Gods before me.

You shall worship me and only me

2. You shall not take

the name of the LORD your God in vain.

You shall use my name properly

3. Remember to keep holy the LORD’S Day.

You shall not work on the lords day.

4. Honor your father and your mother.

You shall not disrespect your mother and father.

5. You shall not kill.

You shall let people live

6. You shall not commit adultery.

You shall stay truthful to your wife.

7. You shall not steal.

You should respect others belongings.

8. You shall not bear false witness

against your neighbor.

You shall tell the truth

9. You shall not covet

your neighbor’s wife.

You should respect your wife

10. You shall not covet

your neighbor’s goods.

You should be grateful for what you have

My interest type is the aid. I am willing to take risks and I am considered to be helpful towards others. It says that I am good at sports and that I am pretty straight forward. I chose the Lacrosse picture because that is one sport that I play and enjoy. I picked the police car and the picture of the girl helping at the food bank because I am helpful to others. I have realistic occupation ideas that involve hands-on work so I put a picture of an electrician because that is what I want to be. I think that this interest survey worked and was pretty accurate.

Ten Commandments

I think that people need to be less greedy and share what they have with people who don’t have as much as them. I believe that countries that are in good situations like Canada and America should give to less fortunate countries like Africa and Ethiopia. If someone is poor in spirit it means that they lack courage and or spiritual awareness. I think we as a school, community, province, and country should help them by giving up their time and things to help them.

Personality Survey

In the survey I found out that I have a ESTP peronality type. The survey asked me lots of questions. There were forty questions to answer. It says that I am comftorable in groups and I enjoy socializing with people. I enjoy having the spotlight in things and it says that I am able to go with the flow. I prefer flexibility when completing tasks instead of having a set date or deadline for something to be completed.
